RESUMO:

The child with chronic disease needs a global look and the offer of a continuous care process. Therefore, it is necessary to have a health care management based on the principle of integrality, through articulation and interlocution of professionals, the services of the same unit and the levels of care composing the health care network, requiring a reorganization of the health professionals process. The insertion of the nurse professional as a coordinator of the nursing team, or as a care manager is of fundamental importance. The objective of this study is to analyze the organizational dimension of the management of child care with chronic disease, its care process, and articulation with the health care network developed by the pediatric unit nurse of a university hospital. This is a descriptive and analytical study of a qualitative approach, through the principles of ethnography as a methodological reference for analysis, aims to relate the institutional culture and its organizational dimension in the management of healthcare for children with chronic disease. It will be carried out in a reference University Hospital of the State of Rio Grande do Norte. The study population includes professionals from the Specialized Unit in the care of children with chronic disease (22 children) including the general coordinator of the pediatric unit, the nursing coordinator, nurses, psychologist, nutritionist, physiotherapist, pharmacist, social assistant and medical. It will also include the children´s caregivers hospitalized in this specialized unit. The participant observation technique, the field diary, the documentary analysis and the semi-structured interview will be used for data collection. It will take place from June to September 2017. The results obtained will be analyzed through content analysis based in Bardin. Some initial results show that leadership and decision making are essential components for the management of nurses in the care of children with chronic diseases. Communication and the ability to identify problems is considered as an indispensable fundamental base in the exercise of leadership, leading to the nurse´s need to acquire some skills, essential to his success, so he can help in the search for solutions and select the best alternative to reach the goals of the decision maker. It is concluded that it is necessary to invest in the management component during the whole process of professional training to acquire skills such as leadership, teamwork, communication, interpersonal relationships, decision making, planning, and organization.
