The workload is embedded in the work context and in the work process, which interacts with each other and with the worker's body, which can cause changes in the biopsychic state and, consequently, physical and psychological exhaustion. They affect the productive capacity of the professional inserted in the labor market, which results in a social and economic impact, burdening the public coffers due to the need for treatment, hospitalization and rehabilitation, in addition to payment of sickness benefits. The present study aims to determine the determinants and determinants of workloads in the nursing work process of the Family Health Strategy (ESF) in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. It is a research method of quantitative approach, of the transversal type, exploratory and descriptive. It will be carried out in the Health Units that own the ESF, in the Municipality of Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. The research subjects will be the nurses working in the FHT, distributed in five Health Districts (North I, North II, South, East and West). The sample (n) of the research will be composed of a finite population cut (N) of 132 nurses, being calculated from the average nursing workload in hospitals of 61.97 (μ) and standard deviation of 2.25 (d) in the Nursing Activities Score (NAS) Index. The sample size calculation also took into account a sample error margin (e) of 1%, for more or less, a drawing effect for simple random sampling (deff = 1,0) and a non-response rate of 20 %. For this, the following equation is used: n = [(N.d2.z2) / (N-1) .e2 + (d2.z2)]. deff, which totals a sample of 53 participants. The data obtained through the instrument for capturing sociodemographic information will be analyzed in the descriptive statistics category. The data on the semi-structured interview will form a textual set, called a corpus. The data of the interviews will be organized in the software OpenOffice 4.1 and then exported to the IRAMUTEQ (Interface for Multidimensional Analyzes of Textes et Questionnaires) that performs the lexical analysis by Hierarchical Descendant Classification (CDH). The study will be conducted on the basis of the principles of ethics and bioethics established by resolution 466/12.
