RESUMO:

INTRODUCTION: The tear is an essential component for nutrition, oxygenation, lubrication, removal of adventitious particles eyeball and acts as a bactericide. Dry eye, or keratoconjunctivitis sicca, is a multifactorial disease is responsible for the instability of the tear film, which causes a deficiency in production or excessive tear evaporation. These changes may cause irreversible damage to the eyeball and if not treated in time can lead to vision loss. Among the risk factors for eye dryness are lagophthalmos, female, estrogen therapy in menoupausa, aging, computer use for long periods, exposure to the environment with humidity and low temperature, use of contact lenses, smoking, disability vitamin A and systemic and ocular medications. Regarding hospital operating rooms (CC) has low temperature and humidity, moreover, patients are subjected to general anesthesia and lose their protective reflexes eyelid closure. Thus, the eye can be exposed for a long period and patients develop ocular dryness. The CC is a critical sector and has professionals from various fields and specialties, which are concerned with the immediate procedures to the patient, while the simple care and easy ascent go unnoticed, such as the eye care. GENERAL OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the occurrence of dry eye in patients undergoing surgery with general anesthetic use. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE: To describe the socio-demographic and clinical features of patients undergoing surgery under general anesthesia; determine the prevalence of the occurrence of dry eye in patients using anesthetic during surgery; establish the relationship between the use of general anesthetics in the occurrence of dry eye in patients during surgeries. METHODS: This is a quantitative study, prospective, quasi-experimental type before and after the influence of the general anesthetic in the occurrence of dry eye in patients during surgeries. Will be performed in the operating room and post-anesthesia care unit of the University Hospital Onofre Lopes (HUOL), located in Natal, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte (RN). The population is composed of patients underwent surgery with specific use of general anesthetics. Participants will be selected for convenience and intentionally. Initially prompted the authorization and consent of HUOL the board for the research. After that will be forwarded the proposal for evaluation to the Research Ethics Committee (CEP) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. The acquisition of assent, participants will be informed of the objectives of the study and will be required signature of informed consent and informed if they agree to voluntarily participate in the survey, with guaranteed anonymity. It will be used a data collection instrument and the Classification of Nursing Outcomes (NOC) to perform the pre- and post-test in the preoperative and immediate postoperative respectively, which comprise the collection of related variables to members data demographic and clinical as well as a physical examination target eye. an eight-hour training in order to enable the team to the data collection will be done. The data will be analyzed and organized in the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 22.0.
