RESUMO:

The hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is used as a strategy of treatment for a variety of malignant and non-malignant, inherited or acquired diseases. HSCT consists of intravenous infusion of healthy hematopoietic progenitor cells (stem cell), extracted from the bone marrow, of peripheral blood, umbilical cord or placenta, aimed at restoring spinal function and immunological patients, with possibility of healing or increased survival free of diseases. Bone marrow is the most traditional source of hematopoietic cells, which has been replaced by hematopoietic progenitor cells also found in peripheral blood, especially in autologous transplants. It is noticed that when there are assistance faults, the whole process of care becomes compromised, which could mean the aggravation of the clinical picture of the patient's disease. For all this, meeting and adopting protocols throughout the process of capture and storage of bone marrow, contributes greatly to a safe infusion, which can prevent, identify, minimize or intervene in possible complications. In this context, this research has as its main objective to characterize the epidemiological and clinical profile of patients who performed HSCT in a referral service in the state of Rio Grande do Norte and to estimate the overall survival of transplant patients. The study will be constituted in a quantitative approach, cohort retrospective, descriptive and analytical type. The data will be collected from secondary sources, i.e. from the charts of patients assisted by the service under study, they will be organized in the worksheet and their entry will be accomplished using Microsoft Excel-Windows® 95 for descriptive procedures and inferential analysis. The Research Protocol was approved by the Research Ethics Committee (REC) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (FURN) in its ethical and methodological aspects in Opinion nº. 1.132.720 and CAAE nº. 46202715.7.0000.5537.
