RESUMO:

Plant secondary metabolites an important molecular process of plant defense system against biotic and abiotic stresses [1]. Tropane alkaloids are plant specialized metabolites which are mostly found in high concentrations in the Erythroxylaceae and Solanaceae families.
Although tropane alkaloids have a high degree of structural similarity because of the tropane ring, pharmacological actions are quite distinct. Scopolamine this a pharmacological agent due to its treatment of smooth muscle spasms as well as nausea, vomiting, motion sickness. Hyoscyamine and atropine have similar modes of action and effects as scopolamine. Cocaine has long been used as a local anesthetic. It is currently the most widely used illicit drug in the world. [2].
Plant to survives in extreme conditions involves process metabolic and molecular that result in acclimation and natural selection, especially in response to drought [3]. Almost 12% of Brazilian territory consists of a semi-arid region with xeric vegetation, in which the Caatinga biome prevails. The Caatinga biome has relevant edaphoclimatic characteristics, for example: low humidity, high temperatures and high solar energy, few precipitation or variations of rain season, poor soils, who they are able to act as elicitors in modulating the biosynthetic pathway of secondary or specialized metabolites [4]. Brazil is one of the main centers of species diversity of Erythroxylum. They are found 123 species of Erythroxylum of 187 registered for tropical America [5-6]. Erythroxylum pungens O. E. Shulz (Erythroxylaceae), a species in the genus Erythroxylum, is a shrub or small tree endemic to the Caatinga region, the main biome of northeastern Brazil. Last study indicates produces at least 11 different tropane alkaloids in this species, some unusual, such as esterified acid substituted aliphatic chains [7].
Zebrafish (Danio rerio) is an experimental model that has gained visibility in scientific research. It is an excellent model for behavioral, genetic and toxicological studies. The species is characterized by being daytime, forming shoals and dispersing large numbers of eggs. Some characteristics, e.g. lower cost, rapid development and transparent egg for example, were of great importance for the popularization of zebrafish (Danio rerio) as a model for scientific studies, especially studies on genetics, toxicology and developmental biology [8].
The characterization of alternative animal models, which allow molecular and embryological analyzes, contributes to a better knowledge of the related neurochemical mechanisms diseases as well as in the development and screening of new drugs or natural compounds [9-10].
We also investigated the effects of E. pungens tropane alkaloid, 3α-(2-methylbutyryloxy)tropan-6,7-diol, isolated from stem shell on eggs, embryos and adult zebrafishs (Danio rerio) to evaluate its bioactive potential.
