The development of new drugs is an activity of great importance for the pharmaceutical industry and involves several stages, among them the monitoring of the quality and safety of the substances of interest. P-coumaric acid may have the hydrogen of its carboxyl esterified by a methyl, ethyl or isopropyl group giving methyl p-coumarate, ethyl p-coumarate and isopropyl p-coumarate, which are targets of several biological studies, but are scarce in the Literature on its physicochemical characteristics, stability and analytical methodology for its identification and quantification. In this context, this work aims at the thermal and chromatographic evaluation of these esters, aiming to evaluate their stability and physicochemical characteristics contributing in the research of new drugs and quality control of drugs that will present these molecules as active principle. The DSC, DTA and TG analyzes showed that the derivatives of p-coumaric acid, despite their structural similarity, have different thermal behavior, so it is possible to use these techniques for identification. The methyl p-coumarate, ethyl p-coumarate had a melting point of 131 ° C and 65 ° C respectively, since isopropyl p-coumarate did not show a melting process. The three samples have good thermal stability, with methyl p-coumarate being the most stable. As for its chromatographic behavior, it was possible to develop a method for the simultaneous identification of these compounds by UHPLC.
