RESUMO:

In recent years, cancer has shown a progressive increase, growing 20% in the last decade and standing out among the chronic-degenerative diseases. Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), prominent to the mouth (SCCB) and oropharyngeal (SCCO), are the most frequent, with more than 90% presentation in these regions, representing 6% of all carcinomas. In Rio Grande do Norte, the epidemiological and survival evaluation of this pathology is still scarce, and this neoplasm is a public health problem in Brazil and in the world. Faced with these facts, this study aims to describe and analyze the survival highlighting the main factors associated with its prognosis. For this, a retrospective prognostic study was carried out in databases and medical records, where all the cases diagnosed with SCCB and SCCO of the Northern Riograndense Contra Câncer League of the last 10 years were selected. For SCCB Disease Free Survival (DFS), low-prognosis factors such as WHO GH (World Health Organization Histological Grading in 2005) were poorly differentiated, location in the retromolar region, and no marital partner independent of staging and treatment. These characteristics were repeated in the Global Survival (GS) for SCCB, with the exception of the status of the partner. In the GS of the SCCO, localization on the basis of language and drinking have obtained the worst prognoses. Already for SCCO DFS, alcohol use loses strength and adds to GH OMS in low-differentiated, smoking and having no marital partner. Despite the low reproducibility of GH systems, the WHO system seems to be an effective prognostic factor for SCCB. Not having a partner can compromise the DFS (SCCB and SCCO), impairing the patient's quality of life, adherence and maintenance of treatment. Well-established risk factors, such as alcohol and smoking, appear to be important prognostic factors in SCCO, but should be approached with caution, especially when the type and quantity used are not checked. Even with the improvement in the survival of the SCCB and SCCO through advances in treatment, it is still considered low and decreasing as the difficulty of diagnosis increases (Lip> Oral> Oropharynx), and the Dentist has a prominent role, since it is usually the first professional to be sought by the patient.
