RESUMO:

Odontogenic lesions are commonly found in gnathic bones, presenting a heterogeneous biological behavior and the pathogenesis is still not fully stablished Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) repair pathways act on specific types of damage to the genetic material, regulating various cellular processes. Among the main DNA repair pathways, the most notable are the base excision repair (BER) and the nucleotide excision repair (NER). Investigations have shown that the proteins involved in these pathways are deregulated and sometimes highly expressed in some malignancies, contributing to tumor progression. Considering the heterogeneity of the biological behavior of odontogenic lesions and the scarcity of studies that have evaluated the expression of proteins involved in DNA repair in these lesions, this study aims to evaluate the immunoexpression of proteins of the BER (APE-1 and XRCC1) and NER (XPF) pathways in benign epithelial odontogenic. The clinical data of the lesions lesions (30 ameloblastomas, 30 isolated odontogenic keratocysts, 30 odontogenic keratocysts associated with Gorlin's Syndrome, 30 dentigerous cysts) and from the 20 dental follicles will be obtained from the clinical records of patients and described according to age, sex, skin color, anatomical location and time of evolution. For the morphological study, glass slides containing 5μm slices of the material stained by routine Hematoxylin/ Eosin technique will be used. A descriptive analysis about the histopathological aspects observed in the lesions of this research will be performed. Analysis of the immunohistochemical expression of APE-1, XRCC1 and XPF will be performed quantitatively by a previously calibrated evaluator, without access to the clinical data of the cases. Once the analyzes are performed, the data will be tabulated in Microsoft Excel® software (Microsoft Corporation, USA) and later transferred to a database created in SPSS ® software for Windows (Statistical Package for Social Sciences, IBM, USA), version 20.0. For all the statistical tests used, the level of significance will be set at 5% (p < 0.05). With this study, we intend to provide subsidies that favor a better understanding of the differences in the biological behavior between these lesions.
