RESUMO:

Oral squamous cell carcinoma is the malignant neoplasm of epithelial origin that is most affected in the oral cavity, and may occur in all oral mucosa, with the tongue and the vermilion of the lip being the most frequent sites. Among the etiologic factors, smoking and alcoholism, are considered as the main causative agents, in addition to chronic exposure to ultraviolet solar rays, especially UVB. Currently, the role of inflammation in tumorigenesis and tumor progression is accepted, and the inflammatory microenvironment is the essential component in this evolution, and a correct understanding of the type of inflammatory response is necessary. The expression of GATA-3, a transcription factor that acts as a master regulator of differentiation in TH2, is configured as an important marker for the recognition of this cellular type. And since IL-4, secreted by TH2 cells, is well established as the major cytokine of the subgroup. The aim of this study was to analyze the immunostaining of GATA-3 and IL-4 in epidermoid lip and tongue carcinomas, to relate the occurrence of T-cell interaction with respect to possible interference in the type of response in the case TH2, analyzing the predominance of this response, in lip and tongue carcinomas. It is intended to obtain data that contribute to a better understanding of the role of these proteins in the biological behavior of epidermoid carcinoma of the lip and tongue.
