In recent years, cancer has been on a progressive rise, growing 20% in the last decade and standing out among chronic-degenerative diseases. Oral (OSSC) and oropharyngeal (OpSCC) squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) are the most frequent, with more than 90% presentation, representing 6% of all carcinomas. In Rio Grande do Norte the epidemiological and survival evaluation of this pathology is still scarce and this neoplasm is a public health problem in Brazil and in the world. Faced with this fact, this study aims to describe and analyze the survival of this pathology highlighting the main factors associated with its prognosis. For this, a retrospective prognostic study was carried out in databases and medical records, where all the cases with diagnosis of OSCC and OpSCC of the Liga Norte Riograndense Against the Cancer of the last 10 years were selected. For OSSC Disease Free Survival (DFS), the stages III and IV, the indication of hormonal treatment, retromolar location and no marital partner were highlighted as somber prognostic factors. These characteristics were repeated in the Global Survival (GS) for OSSC, adding the fact that lower schooling increases the risk of death. In GS for OpSSC, stage IV, localization in tongue 1/3 posterior and failure to perform treatment or to perform only one treatment were the main negative prognostic factors. In DFS for OpSSC, tobacco consumption was also added. The survival of SSC is still low even with advances in treatment, decreasing as it increases the difficulty of diagnosis (Lip> Oral> Oropharynx). Histopathological evaluations are ongoing.
