SUMMARY:

Considering the War of Canudos and its individuals as an important event to think about the History of Brazil, the Northeastern Sertões and their respective processes of production and consolidation of the representations that permeate the Cultural Imaginary popular in Brazilian society, this dissertation is intended as an analysis and continuation of the Bom Jesus Conselheiro Folk Cycle produced by José Calasans. Based on this work, I analyzed how the process of folklorization of Antônio Conselheiro through the countless “folkloric pieces” that were produced after the referred initial study. articulating themes transversal as Messianism and Sebastianism and starting from a Sociological and Marxist, arising from the works of sociologist Maria Pereira Isaura de Queiroz and the Marxist Rui Facó, produced during the 40s and 60s, respectively, about Antônio Vicente Mendes Maciel, I will think about their contribution to the new phases of the Cycle, emphasizing the decades discussed here. Therefore, this dissertation is a study about the innumerable faces and folkloric images acquired by Antônio Conselheiro, as well as an analysis of the contributions of these representations to the formation of an image-cultural profile of one of the identities that were assigned to the northeastern sertanejo people.
