SUMMARY:

This work has as its centrality the formation and dynamics of a devotion to three miracle worker brothers in the sertões do Seridó. Therefore, I try to analyze how the devotion to the Três Anjinhos Queimados, created in the municipality of São Vicente, Rio Grande do Norte, feeds on experiences given and composes certain representations of the sertões. With that in mind, I propose to understand how devotion and memories that stem from a tragedy that killed three children are intertwined with experiences given in these sertões. This study is part of the field of  unofficial catholicism Catholicism and has the concepts of miracle worker and sublimation as fundamental for understanding what happens in the devotion to the Anjinhos Queimados. Added to this, the concept of memory is inserted in this discussion, supporting the investigation of the narrative around miracle workers and the mechanisms that keep this devotion alive. In addition to it, the conception of representation contributes to a perception of the elaborations that feed and build landscapes around devotion. And throughout the research I mobilize the concept of sertões that has been thought of as a category that in this territory was associated with the colonizing process, but that over time and interests took on new meanings. For this work it was necessary to use the Oral History, the image analysis of the painting located on the side of the chapel and the photographs resulting from this investigation and also the inventory and analysis of the ex-votos found in the place of devotion.
