SUMMARY:

This research aims to investigate the strategies involved in the production, publishing and circulation of the fair almanac O Nordeste Brasileiro (The Brazilian Northeast), written by Manoel Luiz dos Santos. An annual leaflet assembled with forecasts for the winter, indications for crops and medicinal herbs, prognoses involving Astrology, horoscope, advertisements, calendar, circulated for decades in Northeast Brazil. Ibiara, in the sertão of Paraíba, was the stage for sales of this leaflet and also for readers and readings about time and destiny in the sertão. Understanding this hinterland as a space for constructing narratives, with unique cultural manifestations that characterize Ibiarian living, the plots involved in the production process, represented by the figure of the author, publishing in the typography space, circulation and reading in free fairs and in the home, the analysis will be done by reading and questioning the leaflet, understanding the changes in format and content throughout the publications. Along the way, interviews were analyzed in order to explore the characters involved in this plot: Manoel Luiz dos Santos and the readers. The theoretical concepts addressed are based on the writings of Roger Chartier (1999), understanding a book as a social and cultural production, thus seeking to apprehend the sociability networks that are built in the book circuit (DARNTON, 2009). Finally, the fair almanac is understood as an element of Cordel Literature, given its format, how it is produced, edited, disseminated, the circulation spaces and its readership (ALMEIDA, 2019).
