“A seiva de nossa terra”: representations of the sertão and sertanejo from the life path of José Bernardo de Medeiros (1889-1988)
José Bernardo de Medeiros; Seridó; Caicó; History of Rio Grande do Norte.
We investigate how the life trajectory of the country politician José Bernardo de Medeiros was appropriated in order to generate representations about him, setting a prominent place for himself in the political history of Rio Grande do Norte and legitimizing the political groups that considered themselves his heirs. For that, we take as reference the studies on the relationship between memory and history promoted by the philosopher Paul Ricoeur and the historians Enzo Traverso and Fernando Catroga. In addition, we take as a basis the Cultural History conceived by Roger Chartier, from the conceptual scheme of representation, appropriation and circulation, as it allows us to launch reflections on how his political performance was appropriated.
