SUMMARY:

This research has as purpose to problematize the representations of the city Assú, located at the state of Rio Grande do Norte, from the intellectual production of journalist named Celso Dantas da Silveira (1929-2005). We propose to analyze how he sought to appropriate of representations to safeguard them and build a heir to a outback of poetry. We emphasize that we do not seek to investigate how representations about Assú were constructed, given that Celso da Silveira's writing has a preservation character. Having said that, we seek to research how Celso da Silveira appropriated the representations of Terra dos Poetas, Terra dos Verdes Carnaubais and Atenas Norte-Rio-Grandense, putting in circulation new and old representations about the city and about himself. This last one emerges as he tries to make the city a base that legitimizes his intellectual actions. Our sources were written by Celso da Silveira The analysis was based on the Conceptual Scheme by Roger Chartier (2002), that discuss about Representation, Appropriation, Practice and Circulation. To answer our questions, we dialogued with the Outback History, Cultural History and Intellectual History.
