RESUMO:

In recent years, with the diversity of wireless communications mainly in systems such as, cell phone, digital TV, wireless local area networks, RFID, etc., in which a single equipment operates in different frequency bandwidths, a continuous challenge is imposed engineers in the design of microwave antennas. The development of equipment with specific requirements of multiband operation has provided the emergence of researches in the area. One of the structures that has received considerable attention is the frequency selective surfaces in due to the diverse applications in the frequency spectrum, including microwaves, millimeter waves and teraHertz.

In this context, the investigation of the effects produced by the use of quasi-periodic arrangements in the design of unit cells of frequency selective surfaces is an interest for the scientific and technological development, given the possibility of improving the characteristics of various devices and circuits used at high frequencies. The study of this type of cell can provide structures with responses that will allow a wide range of applications and can contribute significantly to the improvement of FSS response and bringing benefits to different engineering areas.

The main objective of this work is to decrease the insertion loss in low cost dielectrics from air holes using quasi-periodic arrangements and to improve the performance of these structures. The proposal is to build and measure FSS prototypes. The construction of prototypes will be made through photolithography techniques, looking for a better precision in the production of the FSS.

The investigation of the potentialities and limitations of different quasi-periodic configurations is also part of the work. It is necessary to understand better how geometry dimensions and arrangement generation rules influence the insertion loss of different FSS.
