RESUMO:
In general, the HVDC transmission lines presents great lengths, which increase the
fault occurrence rate and, consequently, the demands on the protection methods. A transmission
line protection with fast actuation is indispensable, because avoid damage in the
system’s assets, increase the stability margin and increase the capacity of electrical energy
transmission. Currently, the protection methods with the potential to become the quickest
existing are the traveling waves based methods. In this work, the traveling waves based
protections principles will be investigated and, at the end, will be proposed a one terminal
traveling wave based protection scheme for a monopolar HVDC transmission line. The
method that will be proposed present the advantage of not requiring a communication
system and data synchronization as required in the two terminal traveling waves based
protection. In this research, is included as proposal to analyse, meticulously, the sampling
frequency impact on the method that will be proposed, which was realized just in the
two terminal method. In addition, classic problems regarding to traveling waves based
protection such as the erros in the traveling wave estimated velocity regarding to real velocity
and faults close to the line terminals will be analysed in order to propose solutions.
The validation and the performance analysis of the method that will be proposed will be
analysed by means of computer simulations in a monopolar HVDC transmission system.
