RESUMO:

The planar bio-inspired antennas provide a source of promising research. Nowadays, the demands for these structures are increasing, because, as well as possess a good operating performance, they have attractive surface characteristics. Based on this, the modern wireless communication systems are seeking to adapt to cases where, often, it’s necessary an antenna design that shows beyond the technical functions, an ornamental application. The geometries inspired on the leaves of plants have allowed the conception of structures harmonious, unique and good performance. Furthermore, the geometrical structures of plants are optimized for thousands of generations to achieve the maximum capture of electromagnetic energy, thus acting as evolutionarily optimized receiving antennas. In this scenario, it’s proposed, an investigation about different leaves geometry, applied for microstrip antennas, including analysis of fractal geometries found in nature. Moreover, it is presented the design of a promising fractal geometry, known as the Pythagoras tree. The structures were characterized with the analysis tool Ansoft Designer that implements the method of moments (MoM) and for the purpose of validating the simulated theoretical results. Several prototypes were manufactured and measured in a vector network analyzer. The antennas were designed for multiband and broadband communications systems applications. It was used the substrate FR-4 fiberglass/epoxy with dielectric constant of 4.4 and thickness of 1.57 mm.
