SUMMARY:

Physical education is characterized as a fundamental curricular component for people's all-round development, but it doesn't always make a positive impression on individuals, for various reasons such as: lack of motor skills, fear of exposure, bullying, among others. Disengagement is a phenomenon present in school physical education, especially among female students, who allege various reasons for their non-participation. Based on the aspects presented, the problem of this research is: "to analyze the factors that contribute to female students withdrawing from physical education classes?" The general objective is to analyze the factors that contribute to this withdrawal in the reality analyzed and, based on the results obtained, to plan and carry out an intervention, with them as active participants in high school physical education classes. This study is characterized as descriptive, with a qualitative approach. It is participant intervention research. The setting is a public high school in the city of São Tomé, Rio Grande do Norte, where the researcher works. The universe of the study was made up of two 2nd year high school classes, which operate in the afternoon. These classes were chosen because they are classes in which there is a greater presence of girls. The sample consisted of approximately 22 students aged between 15 and 18 who were invited to take part in the research during physical education classes. For this, we used the concept of open classes as a reference. One of the data collection techniques was a questionnaire and a field diary. The data obtained was analyzed using the content analysis method proposed by Bardin (2016). In this way, we intend to respond to the problems exposed in our reality, so that the answers obtained help in the construction of knowledge in the area of school physical education, with a commitment to raising the status of this discipline in society, considering its relevance to the integral education of individuals.
