PAGES: 37
BIG AREA: Ciências da Saúde
AREA: Educação Física
SUMMARY:
Motivated by addressing gender issues in sports practice, which for a long time have been one of the problems of School Physical Education, and starting from our daily practice as a teacher, we focus our study on this theme. As a general objective it focused on revealing and discussing gender and prejudice suffered by girls who play football in a sports project, in a public school in the city of Fortaleza - Ceará, aiming to present educational characteristics and coping strategies that contributed to characterize a democratic and inclusive sport for these girls. Our methodological option included the combination of two types of research: the participant, involving the 8 students selected for the present study, and the teaching narrative, considering the formative trajectory of the teacher-researcher. As a data collection instrument, we used the thematic interview applied to the girls, the participant observation of the teacher, during 2019, in the experience of games and training of the project, which were recorded in the conversation circles and in the field diary; as well as the teacher's professional narrative. We performed the analysis of the corpus of thematic interviews, based on content analysis, in which we interweave the students' narratives, with the inferences, according to our premises, and the interpretation, supported by the theoretical foundation. Research involving prejudice against women in sport, more precisely at school, can contribute both to promoting a critical body awareness among students about the historical and cultural condition of women, and to supporting a pedagogical practice related to gender issues, for example, part of physical education teachers. As a summary, we found that currently the initiation of girls in football, happens commonly, and with the support of boys, in games and ball games in the street; that the influences of family members are often preponderant for the permanence or withdrawal in football; that the level of technical skill in football is still a determining factor for the inclusion or exclusion of girls during physical education classes; that belonging to the world of football arouses pleasant feelings in girls; as well as sensations of pain, which in this case are related to the symbolic aggressions of prejudice; and that attitudes of resistance and empowerment through the practice of sport by the students, indicate an advance in the social configuration of sport. We conclude, therefore, that it is increasingly urgent, to take a look at the culture of football, which is hegemonically male, in order to reconstruct it, which is more democratic and less exclusive.
