SUMMARY:

INTRODUCTION: Obesity is a chronic and multifactorial health condition, and excess weight is a reality for more than 60% of the Brazilian population. Recognizing excess weight as a public health problem, the Ministry of Health created the Overweight and Obesity Care Lines (LCSO) to promote comprehensive and continuous care for people with excess weight. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the scientific production on the Care Lines for overweight and obese people of the SUS and to evaluate the LCSO of the states of the Brazilian federation in light of the main guiding documents of this strategy. METHODOLOGY: The research will be conducted in 3 stages: 1) An exploratory study of the rapid scoping review type according to the methodological framework of the Joanna Briggs Institute and PRISMA-ScR, adapted according to Smela et al. (2023). Seeking to understand the role that LCSOs have played in assisting overweight people as management devices in Brazilian public health, through the research question “What is the thematic profile of scientific production in Brazil on Care Lines for overweight and obese people?”; 2) Development of a checklist to evaluate LCSOs, based on the guiding documents of this device and the thematic profile identified in the scope review; 3) Analysis of LCSOs of the states of the Brazilian federation using the checklist. PARTIAL RESULTS: The preliminary analysis of the data allowed us to outline the thematic profile of Brazilian studies on LCSOs, highlighting the facilitating factors and the challenges and barriers recognized by the studies. A prototype of the checklist that will be used to evaluate LCSOs was also developed and the process of surveying and obtaining documentary records of LCSOs of the states of the Brazilian federation was initiated. PRELIMINARY CONSIDERATIONS: The results of this study have the potential to contribute to the process of evaluating and improving LCSO, a key initiative for tackling obesity in the SUS and for providing comprehensive care to people with excess weight.
