AREA: Saúde Coletiva
SUMMARY:

Introduction: Public health is an interdisciplinary field of knowledge that has required the redefinition of the teaching process in the training of health professionals, however there is no way to move towards a transformation without understanding the process experienced by the teacher. Objective: To understand the public health teaching process of teachers at a public Higher Education Institution based on Lee Shulman's Model of action and pedagogical reasoning. Methods: This research will be descriptive with a qualitative approach using Lee Shulman's Pedagogical Action and Reasoning Model as its theoretical basis, to be carried out with undergraduate professors of the public health disciplines at FACISA. Data collection will be carried out through documents and semi-structured interviews composed of questions that deal with understanding, transformation, teaching, evaluation, reflection and new understanding of the teaching process in collective health, which will be recorded and transcribed textually, forming the textual corpus for classic lexical analysis in IRAMUTEQ, subsequently categorized and analyzed following Bardin's Content Analysis proposal. Preliminary results: 16 professors were identified who teach subjects in the area of Public Health at FACISA, namely: Health and Citizenship, Public Health Policies and Epidemiology. Of these, 12 participated in the research, two psychology professors, two physiotherapy professors, four nursing professors and four nutrition professors. Eight interviews were carried out in person and four in a virtual environment, one sample was lost, eleven were analyzed, six categories emerging: Understanding the essential elements for planning teaching in Public Health; Resources and tools used to transform content into teaching objects in Public Health; Pedagogical practices of the teaching process in Public Health; Assessment of methodologies, bibliographies, learning and teaching performance; Reflection on the potential, challenges and difficulties experienced; and New understanding resulting from reflection on the experience of being a teacher. Final considerations: This work will help to understand how the teaching process in public health occurs so as to be able to collaborate with scientific production on pedagogical practices, contributing directly to the teaching process in public health in different professional areas.
