SUMMARY:

This study aims to investigate the implementation of Brazilian Federal Law No. 10,639/2003, which mandates the teaching of Afro-Brazilian and African History and Culture, within the Chemistry curriculum of public schools in the state of Ceará, Brazil. The research is motivated by the evident gap between the legal requirements and classroom practice, as a predominantly Eurocentric curriculum continues to silence African contributions to science while reinforcing structural and epistemic racism. Documentary analyses of the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) and the Curricular Reference Document of Ceará (DCRC) reveal the absence of guidelines and practical teaching proposals capable of effectively promoting anti-racist education in the Natural Sciences. This shortcoming limits the discipline's potential to foster ethical and critical perspectives, thereby perpetuating a hegemonic view of science. The project seeks to integrate Brazilian Federal Law No. 10,639/2003 (Ethnic-Racial Relations) with the teaching of thermochemistry through the historical narrative of Dragão do Mar, using the Three Pedagogical Moments (3PM) as its methodological framework. This approach aims to highlight Ceará's contribution to the abolition of slavery in Brazil. This qualitative, exploratory, and intervention-based study was conducted with a class of 35 second-year high school students at a vocational public school in São Gonçalo do Amarante, Ceará, Brazil. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using Bardin's Content Analysis. As the final educational product, the study proposes the development of an e-book designed to support and disseminate anti-racist and emancipatory science education among Chemistry teachers.
