SUMMARY:

The inclusion of deaf people in different sectors of society is gaining increasing prominence and importance. Supported by several legal provisions, such as the 2002 Brazilian Sign Language Law and the National Education Guidelines and Bases Law, the deaf community has conquered spaces that were once exclusionary. However, only the legal support does not guarantee the inclusion of these people in a satisfactory manner, especially in the school environment, which requires other factors such as infrastructure and qualified professionals. As evidenced by the literature, the shortage of teaching materials aimed at meeting the needs of the deaf community and the lack of experience, training and inclusive practices on the part of most professionals who receive these students in the school context make inclusion an even greater challenge. This is the case of the Environmental Control Technician course integrated into High School at the Instituto Federal da Paraíba, where three deaf students in the fourth year of high school/technical education were identified as needing the presence of a sign language interpreter to translate the content taught by the teacher. This finding inspired the development of this dissertation, with the primary objective of promoting internal didactic transposition, that is, fostering the teacher-student-knowledge triad in a context of deaf inclusion. To this end, the theoretical foundation of this research is grounded in the Theory of Didactic Transposition, by French mathematician Yves Chevallard, and the use of concept maps from an inclusive perspective as a methodological strategy for didactic-pedagogical intervention. The research is classified as a case study associated with action research using a qualitative approach. Among the main results achieved, we highlight the concept mapping workshop, which led us to create a repository of specific signs for the development of new concept maps adapted to Libras (Brazilian Sign Language), focusing on the macro-theme of conventional water treatment. As future perspectives, it’s expected to continue the study of the internal didactic transposition of scientific concepts in the education of deaf people and to develop its theoretical depth, seeking new ways to minimize losses in the educational process.
