INDICATORS OF WILLINGNESS FOR SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION THROUGH SCHOOL SCIENTIFIC ARGUMENTATION AND CRITICAL THINKING IN CHEMISTRY TEACHING

In the context of science education, there is a growing demand for approaches that aim to form critical and conscious citizens. In this context, school scientific argumentation and the development of critical thinking emerge as essential pillars for enhancing these skills. We start from the assumption that teaching activities, whose objectives are based on the relationship between school scientific argumentation and critical thinking, enable the development of a disposition for social transformation in socio-scientific contexts. The general objective was to analyze dissertations and theses from the period 2013 to 2023, within the scope of Chemistry Education, that rely on school scientific argumentation and critical thinking, with a view to identifying indicators that characterize the disposition for social transformation. To theoretically support our approach, we used the frameworks of Jimènez-Aleixandre and Puig (2022), as well as the assumptions proposed by Silva, Marbà-Tallada, and Marquez Bargalló (2024). This research is characterized as qualitative, exploratory, and bibliographical. We conducted a Systematic Literature Review to select dissertations and theses, and for data analysis, we used Bardin's (2016) Content Analysis. The main result was the emergence of thematic categories at an interpretative level from an analytical description, resulting in four indicators of the development of dispositions for social transformation: i) development of argumentation and critical thinking through socio-scientific themes; ii) development of critical thinking and the formation of democratic individuals; iii) critical analysis and stance on information and sources; and iv) defense of ideas supported by evidence. The qualitative discussion of these indicators, comparing them with the frameworks adopted in our research, will be conducted later, after the qualification examination.
