SUMMARY:

The continuous increase in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, resulting from the excessive consumption of fossil fuels, represents one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time, contributing significantly to the rise in global temperature and extreme weather events. In this context, strategies aimed at capturing and converting CO2 have intensified, especially those that enable its transformation into high value-added products, simultaneously promoting mitigation and the generation of chemical byproducts. Among these technologies, the catalytic hydrogenation of CO2 for methanol production emerges as a promising route, since methanol is considered a platform molecule, widely used in the chemical and energy industries. However, this process faces limitations regarding its low conversion and selectivity, as well as the need for highly efficient and specific catalysts capable of overcoming the inert and stable nature of CO2. Given this scenario, the present work proposes to develop and evaluate catalysts based on Cu, Zn, and Zr oxides supported on SBA-15 type mesoporous materials, investigating the modification of their textural and structural properties, such as surface area, volume, and pore size, as well as the presence of metallic oxides. It is expected to better understand the relationship between the structure of the supports and the catalysts, aiming to improve catalytic performance, mainly regarding CO2 conversion and methanol selectivity. In this way, the work contributes to the advancement in the development of more selective and active catalysts, assisting in the consolidation of technologies that strengthen the concept of the circular carbon economy.
