RESUMO:
The search for new materials in the industry is a challenge for researchers in various fields, in the area of traditional ceramic materials, there is a wide and consolidated study of clays and its subsequent amendments by various methods, since the clay minerals were part of evolution historic man for generations. As a premise, there is a study on the Kaolin potential of pegmatitic Seridó region. The state of Rio Grande do Norte, has a potential for the production of this mineral. Kaolin mined in mining in this region, is characterized as interperizada primary origin, due to their training and local characteristics that differentiate them from other regions of kaolin. Performing a thermal study this clay mineral, contacted is a potentiality, with the loss of its crystalline phase, becoming an amorphous structure. Obtaining the way Meta called metakaolin, it enabled an investigation of the characteristics of this pozzolan, compared to other materials already established in the market. This study aims to investigate the amorphization kaolin already benefited from this region, obtaining metakaolin and analysis of physics and chemical parameters as well as an analysis of its pozzolanic activity. We used the techniques of X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-Ray Fluorescence, thermogravimetric analysis (TG), differential thermal analysis, laser granulometry, specific weight. It was measured the pozzolanic activity index with lime. The amorphization of study was conducted using four kinds of temperatures 650 ° C and 750 ° C, 850 ° C and 950 ° C and three types of granulometry according to the standards. It was identified that the metakaolin coming from the pegmatitic region has good chemical and mineralogical characteristics, good degree of amorphization at low temperature and close particle size distribution analysis of commercial material. From the result of pozzolanicity regional metakaolin showed potential in the areas of cement, carriers and others.
