**Discursive Representations in the Inaugural Political Speech of President Jair Messias Bolsonaro: A Microtextual Analysis**
Keywords: Textual Linguistics. Textual Analysis of Discourses. Discursive representations. Political inaugural speech.
This thesis aims to describe, interpret, and analyze the construction of discursive representations (DR) in the inaugural address of the President of the Republic, Jair Messias Bolsonaro, delivered during the solemn inauguration ceremony at the National Congress in BrasÃlia, DF, on January 1, 2019. The analysis focuses on the semantic categories of referencing, predication, modification (of referents and predications), connection, and semantic roles, adopting Textual Linguistics as its theoretical framework, particularly from the perspective of Textual Discourse Analysis — TDA (Adam, 2011, 2017, 2021, 2022). Based on this framework, the study proposes to identify, describe, and interpret the linguistic resources and strategies mobilized by the President of the Republic throughout the argumentative trajectory, aiming to (re)construct discursive representations (self-images) before his interlocutors (addressees), as well as to organize and prioritize the topics addressed in the speech. For the theoretical and methodological foundation of TDA, in addition to Adam, it relies on studies by Rodrigues and Passeggi, Silva Neto (2010), Passeggi (2012, 2024), Queiroz (2013), Oliveira (2014), and Rodrigues (2024). Regarding the textual analysis proper, reference is made to Marcuschi (2008, 2012) and Koch (2011, 2015). For the concept of genre, the dialogic perspective of discourse from the Bakhtin Circle (2003, 2006, 2013) is adopted, while the analysis of semantic roles is supported by Cançado (2017). Methodologically, the research adopts a qualitative, descriptive, and interpretive approach of a bibliographic nature, grounded in authors such as Bastos (2016), Gil (2002), Alves-Mazzotti and Gewandsznajder (1998), Moita Lopes (1996), Chizzotti (1995), Minayo (2007), and Charoux (2004). Regarding the results, it is observed that the discursive representation Jair Bolsonaro builds of himself is achieved through referential expressions and their modifiers, such as liberator, ethical, chosen, honorable, humble, President, government, etc. Thus, he presents himself as an active agent committed to changing the country's direction, particularly regarding development and ethical-religious issues. At the level of predications and their modifiers, Jair Bolsonaro employs action verbs, predominantly in the first-person singular and first-person plural, while making expressive use of ellipses, signaling present and future actions to be carried out. These resources contribute to shaping an enunciative stance centered on speaker accountability and the projection of a government agenda anchored in narratives of rupture, moralization, and the restoration of values, articulated with the image of a charismatic leader invested with a popular mandate.
