A COSMOVISÃO CARNAVALESCA NOS CRONOTOPOS DO FILME COLHEITA MALDITA
Keywords: feature filme;carnivalworldview;chronotope; terror;Children of the Corn
Since its inception, cinema has been linked to fear, because although the intention behind the creation of the cinematograph by the Lumière brothers was not to provoke terror, it ended up achieving this feat. Therefore, focusing on the breadth of Bakhtin's perspective on discursive genres, this work turns to the horror film genre, observing it as a verbivocovisual statement of great relevance in today's society and perceiving, in its composition, the presence of the Bakhtiniancarnivalesque worldview. From this, we conducted a research in which we investigated the presence of elements of the carnivalesque worldview in the film Children of the Corn (released in 1984, by director Fritz Kiersch), identifying and discussing how the chronotope is directly linked to the carnivalesque content and the composition of the elements that provoke estrangement present in this feature film based on a horror story by Stephen King, translated as Children of the Corn. To this end, we use a theoretical-methodological approach based on the studies of: Voloshinov (2017), regarding the concept of language dialogism; Bakhtin (2010), regarding the elements of the carnivalesque worldview, the concept of grotesque; Bakhtin (2011), in his conceptualization of discursive genres; Bakhtin (2018), regarding the concept of chronotope and; King (2013), regarding the horror film genre. This investigation, therefore, reveals itself to be qualitative-interpretative and presents some results, such as the presence of important carnivalesque aspects, perceived in the sudden subversion of the tranquility of rural life by the violence and brutal actions of the cultist children, the fact that children, normally associated with innocence and joy, become the antagonists in a role reversal, challenging the established order, creating an ironic contrast between childlike nature and evil actions, as well as the subversion of adult strength that appears insignificant compared to the perspicacity of the children. In short, we analyze how the three-dimensionality of the film genre and the most diverse chronotopes present maintain a relationship of complementarity in order to contribute to the achievement of the success of the project of telling the production of the feature film Children of the Corn.
