SUMMARY:

Sexual violence against girls is a serious public health problem shaped by gender, class, race, generation, and territory. In the Sertão region of Pernambuco, access to public policies, distances between municipalities, and moral values surrounding sexuality, motherhood, and abortion form the context in which adolescents experience pregnancies resulting from sexual violence. This dissertation aimed to analyze the experiences of these adolescents, seeking to understand how the State, morality, territory, and social relations contribute to the production of reproductive outcomes. Specifically, we analyzed access to health care, social assistance, education, public security, and the justice system; investigated how gender, class, race, territory, and religious morality shape institutional responses; and identified the consequences of pregnancy for educational, family, and affective trajectories, as well as for life projects. The research was grounded in Social Reproduction Theory and guided by historical-dialectical materialism. This qualitative study was conducted in the Sertão region of Pernambuco with 20 participants, including four adolescents who became pregnant as a result of sexual violence, family members, actors within the protection network, and religious leaders. Data were produced through narrative interviews with the adolescents, guided by the construction of timelines; semi-structured interviews with the other participants; and the researcher’s immersion in the territories under study. The interviews were transcribed and organized using QDA Miner, and the analysis was conducted through the Núcleos de Significação (Meaning Nuclei) method, articulating pre-indicators, indicators, and analytical nuclei. The findings show that adolescents’ trajectories are shaped by the conditions of the Sertão territory, where distance, the concentration of services, and transportation barriers condition access to public policies. Entry into the rights protection system takes place through a network marked by discontinuities, weaknesses in intersectoral coordination, and differing interpretations of sexual and reproductive rights, creating a labyrinth of protection following confirmation of pregnancy. Within these trajectories, access to legal abortion was restricted by unequal access to information, institutional requirements, conscientious objection, and the need to travel between municipalities. Continuing the pregnancy and becoming a mother were associated with the early assignment of reproductive responsibilities to adolescents and their families, with consequences for schooling and life projects. Patriarchal and religious moralities shape how sexual violence, abortion, and motherhood are understood and addressed within institutions and social relations. Cases that never reach the protection network due to silence, lack of reporting, or delayed recognition of violence remain absent from institutional records and from available data on sexual violence and resulting pregnancies. The study concludes that reproductive outcomes are produced by territorial, institutional, and social conditions that delimit adolescents’ possibilities for decision-making. Unequal State action and patriarchal and religious moralities restrict the exercise of sexual and reproductive rights and transfer the costs of continuing a pregnancy to girls and their families. Within these trajectories, formal protection coexists with practices that reproduce inequalities and sustain motherhood resulting from sexual violence.
