MEANINGS AND EXPERIENCES OF LEISURE IN THE CONTEXT OF SKATEBOARDING EXPERIENCED BY YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE CITY OF NATAL/RN/BRAZIL

The general objective of this research was to understand the meanings and experiences of leisure in the context of skateboarding practices experienced by young people in public leisure spaces in the city of Natal/RN. The research had the following specific objectives: to describe the group leisure experiences experienced by young people in the context of skateboarding; to identify the perceptions of young people about the places where they practice skateboarding; to investigate the possible influences of skateboarding in the construction of young people's social identities. This study is characterized as field research. A descriptive research with a qualitative approach was used. The group investigated was thirty (30) social actors between 18 and 29 years of age, who practice skateboarding in the city of Natal/RN, in at least one of the following public leisure spaces: Henrique Carloni Square (Praça do Disco) - Ponta Negra; Natal Presépio space (Barça Crew) - Candelária; Iapssara Aguiar Events Square - Potengi (Comunidade Skate Zona Norte) - Potengi; Sports court on Rua Rio Suassuí – (Kaboré Skate) - Pitimbu. The final number of social actors who participated in the research was defined by theoretical saturation. A semi-structured interview and a questionnaire were used as instruments. The interview consisted of thirteen (13) questions involving the research objectives and the questionnaire consisted of fourteen (14) questions aiming to outline the profile of the participants. The data were interpreted through Bardin's categorical analysis (1977). The dissertation is divided into the introduction of the research; the introduction and development of skateboarding in the United States, Brazil and the city of Natal/RN; the skateboarding spots in the city of Natal/RN and the relationship of skateboarders with the urban space of Natal; the practice of skateboarding and the construction of youth identities.
