SUMMARY:

Introduction: Syphilis is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. In Brazil, it is a major public health problem, given the increasing numbers of cases of the disease over the years. During pregnancy, it is recommended to establish quality prenatal care, and Primary Health Care is responsible for the care and treatment of pregnant women with syphilis. It is known that there are great challenges for adequate treatment, so health assessment is necessary to verify areas for improvement in services and contribute to their efficacy, efficiency, and effectiveness. In
addition, nursing theories provide a basis for professional practice and contribute to nurses'
decision-making. Objectives: To evaluate the follow-up of treatment for Gestational Syphilis in the
city of Natal and to analyze the influence of the context in the work environment on the actions of
professionals based on Betty Neuman's Theory. Methodology: This is a Scoping Review prepared in
accordance with the recommendations of the Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewers’ Manual. The
search was conducted in August and September 2024 and analyzed national and international
databases: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS, the platform of theses and dissertation from
CAPES, Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), The National Library of Australia’s
Trobe (Trove), DARTEurope E-Theses Portal, Electronic Theses Online Service (EThOS) and the
Open Access Scientific Repository of Portugal (RCAAP). Expected Results: This study is expected
to provide a broad overview of the practices and challenges related to the treatment of gestational
syphilis in PHC, supporting the improvement of public health policies aimed at maternal and
neonatal health. In addition, the application of Betty Neuman's Systems Theory will provide a

model for understanding the factors that influence treatment effectiveness, assisting in decision-
making by health professionals and managers.
