Families in transition: An ethnography of kinship, identity and gender in the social experience of transsexuality

This research aims to understand the transformations on family relations of transsexual people through their gender transition, investigating practices of "relatedness" invested with moral meanings and the configuration of fields of possibilities to different projects for individual trajectories, built by kinship and gender relations, as well as the creation of new political identities for mothers of "trans sons/daughters" in the social movement of families of LGBT people. The research was conducted through ethnographic fieldwork in João Pessoa and Recife, from April 2018 to June 2019, with the objective of analyzing the articulations between family relations, political activism and State practices of producing and regulating identities and gender.
