SUMMARY:

The present research aims primarily to investigate the perception of the professionals of emergency healthcare teams of the Santa Catarina Hospital regarding their clinical practice of domestic violence cases and how it is related with their care for women victims of violence. Specifically pursues: 1) Comprehend the dimension of violence and domestic violence as a matter of public health for these professionals and how it may affect the user’s care; 2) Verify how their academic background enrich their practice during domestic violence cases; 3) Apprehend how their clinic practice of those cases undertakes an impact in their personal and professional lives. It thus develops the theoretical discussion of the historical gender and women categories, its interrelation with gender-based inequality, domestic violence and the concept of violence for health anthropology, in conjunction with how these aspects are related to the care delivered by health teams in cases of domestic violence and the barriers that emerge in this process. The preliminary research reveals limitations in the education background of the healthcare professionals arising from a limited number of debates about violence and gendered relations combined with the dominance of the biomedic perspective in which contributes to challenges during domestic violence care, facing obstacles such as the underreporting of cases, constraints during the filing of the mandatory notification forms and barriers for a sensible approach regarding the theme of violence. Therefore, methodologically the present research aims to interview professionals individually with semi-structured interviews and undertakes qualitative data analysis grounded in anthropological and health anthropology frameworks.
