Photography; artisanal fishing; visual anthropology; imagination, Rio Grande do Norte
This dissertation explores the intricate web of relationships between artisanal fishermen and the marine environment, focusing on the communities of Diogo Lopes, Sertãozinho, and Barreiras, situated in the Sustainable Development Reserve of Ponta do Tubarão. Beyond their economic role, these fishermen play a crucial part as custodians of traditional knowledge, shaping landscapes, memories, and imaginaries. The research delves into the connection between fishermen, boats, and traces through drifts and photoethnography. Grounded in photography, the study aims to safeguard the memory of artisanal fishing, examining how images and narratives unveil a profound link between nature and culture. Photography is embraced as a central instrument and language in the research, highlighting visual protagonism and experimentation in contemporary anthropology. Concepts of montage and experimentation are employed in constructing a multisensory ethnography.
