This work is the result of research conducted in the context of the competitive “quadrilhas juninas” in Ceará, more specifically at Sobral, state’s north. The proposal is to reflect, from the experience in a delimited field, on the characteristics of the called “movimento junino” or “quadrilheiro” composed mainly by the “quadrilhas” that participate in the so-called festivals, contests where they fight for awards that are, at the same time, material and symbolic. Following the movement waged by the “quadrilha Estrela do Luar” within this context, this work seeks to uncover the politics of relations established in the processes experienced by the called “quadrilheiros”, social actors that directly integrate the symbolic universe of the “competições juninas” in the state - which has specific practices and interests. The construction of a continuous social process can be seen from this, which accounts for a transformation in the cultural manifestation in question, that incorporates to its festive symbols regarded as typical new elements, among which the question of rivalry and competitivity seem to be latent. The present study helps thinking about the movements lived by certain groups of the so-called popular culture in the contemporaneity, indicating that their transformations are not only on the aesthetic level of the art they express publicly but above all in the social processes assumed in the construction of the cultural manifestations, in which sensitive changes in outlook also happen.
