SUMMARY:

This dissertation, entitled “Exploring the Pedagogical Potential of Hand Sanitizer Gel: A Practical and Interdisciplinary Approach to Chemistry Teaching”, aims to analyze and demonstrate the impact of an interdisciplinary didactic sequence — grounded in experimentation and problematization — on the teaching and learning process of Chemistry in a full-time high school context. Developed within the Graduate Program in Science and Mathematics Teaching (PPGECNM/UFRN), this research is part of the line Teaching and Learning of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and draws upon theoretical frameworks by Paulo Freire, David Ausubel, Marco Antônio Moreira, Yves Chevallard, José André Delizoicov, Lev Vygotsky, and Ivani Fazenda, among others. The methodology adopted is qualitative and descriptive, based on participant observation, reflective records, and the analysis of perceptions from 32 students enrolled in a technical full-time high school at Escola Estadual em Tempo Integral Rosa Pignataro, Nova Cruz/RN, Brazil. The educational product — a didactic sequence on the production of hand sanitizer gel — was structured according to the Three Pedagogical Moments (Delizoicov, Angotti & Pernambuco, 2009) and the theory of Meaningful Learning (Ausubel, 2003). Results revealed significant improvements in motivation, conceptual understanding, and the perception of interdisciplinarity, confirming the importance of contextualized experimentation and dialogue as transformative practices in Science education. The study concludes that a practical and interdisciplinary approach fosters a critical and emancipatory scientific culture, reaffirming the teacher’s role as mediator and researcher of their own practice.
