Fair almanac; Sertão; Literature of twine.
This research aimed to analyze reading practices related to the fair almanac O Nordeste Brasileiro, in the city of Ibiara, backlands of Paraíba, in the period between 1967 and 1980. O Nordeste Brasileiro is an annual leaflet assembled with predictions for winter, indications for plantations and medicinal herbs, prognoses involving Astrology, horoscopes, advertisements, calendar, circulating between the 1940s and the beginning of the 21st century in the Northeast of Brazil. Ibiara was the sales stage for this leaflet and for readers and readings about time and destiny in the backlands. Understanding this hinterland as a space for the construction of narratives and with unique cultural manifestations that characterize the life of Ibiara. The readings done in the Sertão(s) represent a way of life and define how subjects understand and deal with the Universe. By analyzing the structure and content of this leaflet, it was possible to identify the plots involved in the preparation process and how each detail particularizes this almanac. Having as its author Manoel Luiz dos Santos from Pernambuco, this character was also identified as a prophet of the sertão. The theoretical concepts covered are based on the writings of Roger Chartier (1999), understanding the book as a social and cultural production, as well as understanding the fair almanac as an element of Cordel Literature, given its format, the ways of production, editing, dissemination, circulation spaces and its readership (ALMEIDA, 2019)
