SUMMARY:

The occurrence of language delay is one of the most common developmental issues among preschool-aged children, which may be associated with conditions such as hearing loss or manifest in the absence of cognitive and sensory impairments. The use of screening tests and continuous evaluations has significant potential for early identification of language alterations. This process facilitates timely interventions and targeted approaches, as well as allowing for the monitoring of outcomes and improvement in the management of healthcare services. However, the inequality in the distribution of professionals and specialized centers represents a considerable challenge. Digital health emerges as a promising solution by overcoming geographical barriers, providing flexible access to healthcare services, and contributing to more effective and equitable interventions. In this context, this dissertation unfolds into two studies: Article 1 aims to conduct a scoping review across PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and ProQuest Dissertations and Theses (PQDT) based on the research question: “What are the available instruments for the screening and assessment of oral language in preschool children via teleconsultation?” Article 2, on the other hand, aims to carry out a descriptive and exploratory study on the application of a teleconsultation protocol for the evaluation and monitoring of language in children with hearing loss. Ethical principles were adhered to for Article 2, and the project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee.
