OBTAINING EVIDENCE OF VALIDITY AND ACCURACY OF THE NORTHWESTERN DYSPHAGIA PATIENT CHECK SHEET (NDPCS), TRANSLATED AND ADAPTED TO BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE
Swallowing Disorders, Validation Study, Clinical Protocols
Introduction: Oropharyngeal dysphagia is a condition that affects swallowing and is associated with several comorbidities. Swallowing assessment is essential to identify dysphagia and implement therapeutic measures. The Northwestern Dysphagia Patient Check Sheet (NDPCS) is a widely used protocol for this assessment, but its Portuguese version has not been validated. Objective: To update the content and obtain evidence of validity and accuracy of the NDPCS protocol, which has already been translated and adapted to Brazilian Portuguese. Methodology: This is a methodological study in which the content will be updated and the validation steps of the NDPCS protocol translated and adapted to Brazilian Portuguese will be continued. The update will occur through the evaluation of judges who are experts in oropharyngeal dysphagia, using the Delphi method. To validate its internal structure, the updated NDPCS will be applied to a convenience sample in the proportion of 10 participants per question, according to the number of questions that will remain after this process. Data analysis will include several parameters, such as the chi-square test, the comparative fit index (CFI), the root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA), the Tucker Lewis Index (TLI), and the weighted root mean square residual (WRMR). The data obtained will be analyzed through confirmatory factor analysis to validate the internal structure of the protocol questions. The preliminary version will then be applied and reapplied for test-retest in order to analyze its reliability, as well as its internal consistency and accuracy. Expected results: the outcomes to be found should present good adjustments to the translated and adapted model, in which the remaining questions are expected to present good consistency, reliability, and accuracy indices and to be up to date.
