CONSTRUCTION AND VALIDATION OF A NURSING PROGRESS CHECKLIST FOR PEDIATRICS IN EMERGENCY CARE
Nursing records; Pediatric nursing; Nursing process; Emergency medical services
In emergency and urgent care units, the care provided has particular characteristics due to the imminent risk to life, especially in pediatrics, a population with specific needs. The nurse plays a central role in patient care, acting as a manager of the care process and making critical decisions. The use of tools that support clinical decision-making is crucial for effective and safe care. In this context, the following research question was raised: What elements are necessary to develop and validate the content of a nursing progress checklist for pediatrics in urgent care units? Objective: To develop and validate a nursing progress checklist for pediatric patients admitted to or under observation in an urgent care unit. Method: This is a methodological study with a quantitative approach, based on Pasquali’s methodological framework. The study will be conducted in three stages: 1) Theoretical procedures, including a scoping review to map the scientific literature on nursing progress instruments used for pediatric patients in emergency and urgent care settings and the development of the checklist content. 2) Empirical procedures, consisting of theoretical analysis of the items and content validation by expert judges; 3) Analytical procedures, involving statistical data analysis using the Content Validity Index and the kappa coefficient. The research participants will be experts in pediatrics, emergency and urgent care, and methodological research. The study will be conducted following approval by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte. Expected results: The development of a specific nursing progress checklist for pediatrics in emergency and urgent care services is expected to contribute to more systematized, safe, and comprehensive patient care.
