Mental health has played a significant role in our perceptions over time. In Brazil, the assistance to people with mental disorders was exclusive, with an assistance focused on the disease. Only years later, support services were being created, starting the transformation of Mental Health in the country. Due to the low literacy on this theme in society, the project aims to demystify prejudices of the perception of the population through the diffusion of history and memory of madness in Rio Grande do Norte, besides enabling a democratic space for the dissemination of knowledge in the area of Public Health and the advancement of SUS and the anti-asylum struggle at national level. Objective: To build a museum-type digital technology through the analysis of stories and memories of mental health in Rio Grande do Norte by transforming the Hospital Colônia João Machado into Hospital Geral Dr. João Machado. Methods: This is a qualitative research approach based on referential that seeks to elucidate history and memory. The study will be developed in two stages: the first consists of documentary analysis, while the second involves the use of individual interviews through a semi-structured script to be carried out with key informants for the collection of experiences and institutional transformations. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, participants will sign the Informed Consent Form. The data analysis will occur using content analysis, in the modality of thematic analysis, according to Minayo. Subsequently, with the development of technical-technological product of this research, a digital museum will be built, with the objective of preserving and disseminating the history and institutional memory and its contribution to the health of the state of Rio Grande do Norte. Expected results: It is hoped that the development of the first virtual museum of madness in the state of Rio Grande do Norte will contribute to the history of the asylum being known and overcome, providing the dissemination of knowledge by virtual environment so that the museum is not limited to the physical and local environment, strengthening the anti-manicomial struggle and humanized care of mental health at liberty in the state.
