SUMMARY:

Introduction: The human experience of carrying and giving birth to a newborn can be considered one of the most significant, rewarding, and enriching of a lifetime. During pregnancy, the family prepares to welcome a child and idealizes life with this new member. However, outcomes are not always favorable, and there are cases where intrauterine fetal death occurs or the newborn dies shortly after birth. This situation represents an emotional and technical challenge for health professionals, especially the nursing team, who play an essential role at this time of great vulnerability. Faced with this problem, it is necessary to sensitize and equip nurses, offering them technical and emotional support so that they can provide qualified and humanized care to bereaved families. In view of the above, the following research questions were posed How does the CCO care team experience the care process when faced with a perinatal death? And, which aspects are relevant for the nursing team when creating a guideline for the implementation of the care process in the event of a perinatal death in the CCO? Objective: To develop a practical guide for nurses on the care process in the event of a perinatal death in the obstetric surgical center of a maternity hospital. Methodology: This is an exploratory, descriptive, qualitative study that will be carried out at the Januário Cicco Maternity School. The research will include a scoping review to map the scientific literature on the care process in the face of perinatal death to support the development of the Guide. The participants of the study will be members of the nursing team of the obstetric center of this institution. Data will be collected through discussion groups, using as a collection tool a script of triggering questions on the topic under study, which will guide the discussions, which will be recorded. After ethics committee approval, participants will sign an informed consent form. The data will be analyzed using content analysis in the form of thematic analysis according to Bardin. The technical product of this study will be a practical guide to the process of care for perinatal death in the obstetric surgical center, based on a scoping review. Expected outcomes: It is hoped that the development of the Practical Guide will contribute significantly to the humanization and qualification of the care provided, since it will promote more effective technical support for the care teams, favoring the standardization of behavior and strengthening the reception of women and their families at a time of extreme vulnerability.
