SUMMARY:

Amidst the challenges of the new millennium, the growing need for emotional regulation in contemporary society highlights the importance of developing socio-emotional competencies and Nonviolent Communication (NVC) in the holistic education of children, especially during the elementary level of school. This study focuses on fostering these competencies among 5th-grade students in a full-time school setting, aiming to contribute to the development of social skills and values that render violence unacceptable. The research addresses the question: How can socio-emotional competencies and Nonviolent Communication be developed with 5th-grade students to promote integral education? The main objective is to promote the learning of these competencies as a means of integral formation. Specific goals include aligning socio-emotional skills from the BNCC with the research group’s characteristics; identifying students' self-awareness in interpersonal relationships; comparing attitudes before and after the intervention; and evaluating the pedagogical intervention project. The study is grounded in the BNCC and UNESCO's four pillars of education, drawing on the theoretical contributions of Freire, Rogers, Rosenberg, Vygotsky, Zabala, and Resnick. The methodology is qualitative, applied, and participatory, guided by action research, with data collected through semi-structured interviews and participant observation, and analyzed using Saldaña’s coding cycles. The intervention will take place in a full-time public school in Natal/RN, using a pedagogical project that incorporates socio-emotional education and NVC principles. As a technical product, an educational game co-created with students will be developed to support the enhancement of these competencies within the school and broader community. Expected outcomes include improved socio-emotional skills, enhanced school coexistence, reduced aggressive behaviors, and strengthened peaceful conflict resolution, contributing to a more empathetic, democratic, and emotionally-aware school culture
