SUMMARY:

This action research analyzes the effects of implementing a teaching sequence based on Creative Learning on the development of deficient mathematical skills in a 5th grade elementary class. The study is grounded on the observation that many students show low performance in Mathematics, especially in external assessments, which highlights gaps in logical reasoning, problem-solving, and the application of fundamental operations. To address this scenario, the proposal is based on the principles of Constructionism and, particularly, on Creative Learning as conceived by Resnick (2017), which articulates the 4Ps — Projects, Peers, Passion, and Play — with the Creative Learning Spiral, composed of the stages: imagine, create, play, share, and reflect. The investigation, with a qualitative approach and applied nature, is being carried out with students from a public school in the municipality of Parnamirim/RN, Brazil. So far, the diagnostic stage has been completed through an assessment based on the parameters of the Center for Public Policies and Educational Evaluation – CAEd (2024), which revealed high levels of learning gaps in skills such as multiplication, division, and the use of the monetary system. Based on this assessment, the planning of the interdisciplinary teaching sequence is underway, as well as the pedagogical intervention, which will be guided by the Creative Learning Spiral and centered on the creation and symbolic commercialization of educational games, fostering a collaborative, active, and meaningful learning environment. As a technical product, a didactic guide will be developed with activities organized according to the Creative Learning Spiral, to be made available on the Pluni platform, with the purpose of supporting innovative pedagogical practices in Mathematics teaching in the early years of schooling. The general objective of this research is to analyze the impact of a teaching sequence based on Creative Learning on the development of deficient mathematical skills of 5th grade students. To this end, the following specific objectives were established: (i) to identify Mathematics contents and skills considered critical in this grade level; (ii) to develop a teaching sequence using Creative Learning to explore such skills; and (iii) to evaluate the skills mobilized by students through the application of the proposed teaching sequence.
