Guidelines for the Pedagogy of Freehand Drawing in Architecture and Design.
Freehand Drawing; Teaching; Methodological Approaches.
This research has as its main objective: to understand the relevance of learning freehand drawing in the current education of architects and designers, investigating how this practice can guide and be integrated into new methodological approaches. The study seeks to understand how manual drawing is present in the teaching-learning process, from the perspectives of curricular structures, authors, professors, and students from both courses, identifying its importance, especially in the design conception process. The focus is to address issues related to freehand drawing in the contemporary context, valuing past contributions, identifying the current situation, and enhancing teaching for tomorrow. The research also reflects on the need for adaptation to new modalities of practice and the appropriate use of technological resources, seeking to combine tradition and innovation to maintain drawing as an active practice for designers. To this end, based on an Action Research methodology, we collected and analyzed the syllabi of drawing-related curricular components focusing on manual action in Architecture and Urbanism courses and in the various profiles of Design courses throughout Brazil. A state-of-the-art review was conducted, aiming to identify recent research on the theme and check its alignment with classic literature. For data collection, a collaborative network was established, through which it was possible to conduct interviews with Brazilian authors frequently cited in the syllabi and with professors from both courses, as well as focus groups and practical workshops with volunteer students. The object of study of this research is the freehand drawing teaching approaches in Architecture and Design courses, and this pre-defense presents an overview of the work conducted to date and its partial results.
