This study discusses the use of games as a methodological tool in teaching handball
in physical education classes. The general objective of the research is to understand
the use of games in the process of developing sports learning. The target audience
was 6th-grade students from the Dr. Júlio Gomes de Senna Municipal School,
located in the city of Ceará-Mirim/RN. The study methodology was pedagogical
intervention research with a qualitative approach. A didactic sequence of 8 classes of
50 minutes each on handball was applied, with two perspectives for data collection:
one more related to the students (questionnaires) and the other related to my
pedagogical performance (classroom diary). After the intervention, an interpretive
analysis of the data obtained was carried out in order to understand the effects of
using games in teaching handball. As an educational resource, an e-book was
created containing a didactic sequence that enables the teaching of handball using
the game as the main methodological tool. The material includes several games, with
suggestions and adaptations, that can be applied in different school contexts. Based
on the results of this research, it can be concluded that the use of the game as a
methodological tool in teaching handball proved effective in triggering significant
sports learning experiences, contributing to the technical, tactical, and human
development of students in the context of school Physical Education.
