SUMMARY:

Our study is motivated by personal experiences and challenges faced by teachers and students in environmental issues in the integrated technical education curriculum in state schools in Rio Grande do Norte. The research stems from the problem of curricular deficiencies that hinder the systemic interrelation between Physical Education (PE) and environmental practices in our education system. Thus, we will critically explore the possibilities of incorporating PE into the environmental content of the curriculum of Integrated Technical High Schools for the Environment, which will aim to fill a significant gap in the existing literature on this integration. Thus, the research aims to create pedagogical activities that integrate Physical Education (PE) and environmental practices in this technical teaching and learning environment, aiming to provide meaningful experiences for the comprehensive training of students and to support reflections on professional teacher development in the aforementioned state public school system. Therefore, the exploration, with a qualitative approach characterized as participatory research, will be based on authors such as Oliveira (2022) and Tommasiello et al. (2015) and will specifically aim to: analyze the historical evolution of environmental issues and sustainability; develop pedagogical strategies to integrate environmental practices into Physical Education, based on curriculum guidelines and the perceptions of teachers and students; implement interdisciplinary experiences that combine movement and environmental preservation in school and natural spaces; critically evaluate the impact of activities on students' socio-environmental awareness; and develop a practical guide (e-book) with systemic pedagogical strategies for curricular integration between Physical Education and environmental practices. The applied research to be conducted at the Winston Churchill Full-Time State School and in public parks will provide an understanding of how students experience the relationship between Physical Education and environmental practices, based on their perceptions and everyday experiences. The methodological choice in question will be based mainly on the perspective of Minayo (2014) and Severino (2017), who highlight the ability of participatory research to capture spontaneous interactions between students, the environment, and Physical Education teaching. The methodology will involve a first-grade class from the aforementioned school and a Natural Sciences teacher. We will collect data through questionnaires (pre/post-intervention), semi-structured interviews, participant observation, audiovisual recordings, and reflective self-assessments, with thematic analysis via ATLAS.ti software. We hope that the activities will strengthen environmental awareness, promote socio-environmental engagement, and support pedagogical policies aligned with the BNCC, filling gaps in the literature on interdisciplinarity in technical education. Ethical aspects were approved by the UFRN Ethics Committee, ensuring anonymity, informed consent, and risk mitigation.
