SUMMARY:

The school, as a multicultural space with intense social intersections, plays a central role in the development of children and adolescents, contributing to their holistic formation. However, many students face contexts marked by social exclusion, problematic behaviors, and weakened social interactions, especially in the aftermath of the pandemic. These factors pose challenges to the educational process and reinforce the need for pedagogical approaches that promote values such as responsibility, respect, and cooperation.

In this context, Physical Education assumes a significant role by enabling, through bodily practices, experiences that involve following rules, collective coexistence, and reflection on attitudes. Based on this perspective, the present research aims to experience, analyze, and report the implementation of the Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility (TPSR) model, developed by Donald Hellison, in Physical Education classes. The objective is to plan practices aligned with the model’s values, identify potential behavioral changes among students, and critically reflect on teaching practice.

This study adopts a qualitative approach in the form of an experience report, as described by Gil (2019), which values the interpretation of reality based on the researcher’s concrete and subjective experiences. According to Cordula and Nascimento (2019), this type of study allows for critical analysis of experience and the production of knowledge with transformative potential in teacher training and the school context.

The research is based on the experiences of a teacher with a 6th-grade class in a public school in João Pessoa/PB, composed of 37 students (25 boys and 12 girls), aged between 10 and 12. Two instruments will be used for data collection: a student self-assessment form during Physical Education classes, and the teacher’s field journal, which is structured around the five areas of student responsibility assessment: Self-Control, Participation, Effort, Self-Direction, and Helping/Leadership.

The study aims to develop a set of thematic lesson plans that incorporate TPSR principles into sports education, contributing to a more ethical, empathetic, and formative pedagogical approach within the school environment.
