  • The Triennial Action Plan for Undergraduate Courses (PATCG), from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), was approved at the end of 2017 through Resolution nr. 181/2017-CONSEPE, contemplating the policy of improving the quality of Undergraduate and Graduation Courses Program established in the Institutional Development Plan (PDI) of this institution. After this approval, all undergraduate courses at the university were responsible for building the PATCG in order to develop strategies to face the weaknesses presented and guide actions to improve the indicators, which are generated and disseminated by the National Evaluation System of the Higher Education (SINAES). This research aimed, as a general objective, to analyze the current information flow in the construction of PATCG present in undergraduate courses at the Center for Social and Applied Sciences at UFRN, proposing possible improvements in this flow. It is an applied research, with a qualitative approach and classified as descriptive. The study subjects were the coordinators of the undergraduate courses at the Center for Social and Applied Sciences at UFRN, as they are responsible for producing the PATCG. Data collection was carried out through a semi-structured interview with these coordinators through a census investigation in which the successful points and barriers faced by the research subjects in the preparation of the PATCG were highlighted, with the intention of strengthening the successful proposals and suggest strategies for coping with the barriers presented with the recommendation of a model of information flow from the experiences, expectations and experiences of the subjects themselves. For data analysis, the content analysis technique was performed. The research confirmed the existence of an information flow with some disjointed and non-standardized steps, becoming obstacles of the plans production. The research results sharpened the need for improvements in the flow of information, of an institutional nature, as it is contributing to the policy of improving UFRN’s undergraduate courses; ornanizational for offering a proposal to improve the information flow present in the construction of PATCG; and human, for being willing to cooperate with those involved in the process of building the plans, with proposals for strengthening this flow, based on the Model of Choo (2003). It is hoped that the suggestions for improvement, presented here, can contribute to the implementation of actions that reverberate in a standardized information flow, collaborating, in a significant way, with the policy of continuous improvement of undergraduate courses proposed by UFRN, in addition to boosting the optimization of information management, contributing to new practices for the acquisition, organization, storage, distribution and use of information.

  • Teaching, research and extension actions within universities are developed based on strategic planning and academic projects usually carried out in partnership with support foundations. This relationship is regulated by Law No. 8,958 / 94, which establishes the duty of support foundations to account for the resources applied by the financing entities and to these entities to analyze them. Thus, this study sought to understand how the Federal Rural University of the Semi-arid (UFERSA) analyzes the final account payments of the agreements executed by
the Guimarães Duque Foundation (FGD). Specifically, the objectives were: a) to identify whether the procedures and information products used by UFERSA meet the requirements established in the legislation; b) to evaluate the perception of the professionals who are ac- countable for the ease and / or difficulty in using the products and performing the procedures performed by UFERSA; and c) to propose guidelines for the construction and / or alteration of procedures and informational products to assist in the analysis of accountability. The method used to carry out the research was the Carvalho Intelligence Audit, A. (2010). It is an applied and field research, of a descriptive nature with a primarily qualitative approach. The field of study was the Division of Academic and Institutional Projects (DPAI). The techniques used for data collection were bibliographic research, documentary research, questionnaire, interview and benchmarking. In the data analysis, the techniques of inductive statistics and content analysis were used. It was found that the informational procedures and products used by UFERSA meet the requirements established in the legislation, that the profile, training and professional experiences can influence the understanding and security in the analysis of the account rendering of the agreements. That the diversity of projects and the frequent updates in legislation demand changes in the content of informational products and that there are problems in communication between the actors in the process. Such findings supported important recommendations. In this sense, the audit of informational assets represents an improvement of the traditional auditing process in the public sector, since it includes aspects linked to informational assets, essential to all processes, subsidizing governmental accountability actions.

  • Within the scope of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), the Infrastructure Superintendence (INFRA) has successfully accomplished projects for new buildings that may involve tens of thousands of m2 of built area and tens of millions of reais in value of effort. Such magnitude and complexity demand high capacity in the information management of these projects through information systems (IS) due to their relevant role in monitoring the process of preparing architectural projects, in presenting valuable information, during the development of projects, and in the analysis of all its informational flow. In this way, it is opportune for the organization to have an IS integrated with the management of the projects, allowing the available resources to be applied efficiently and effectively. In view of this organizational context, it is relevant to ask: “how can the information flow integrated into an information system contribute to improving the monitoring of the process of elaborating INFRA's architectural projects?”. To answer this problem, an applied, descriptive, and qualitative research was developed, with the research strategy of conducting a single case study. As a method of data collection, five semi-structured interviews were conducted with managers and specialists from the sector in question, in addition to the use of documentary research. Data analysis was carried out through thematic analysis based on the theoretical-conceptual framework conceived through the theoretical foundation. As a result, the research pointed to the existence of an informal and inappropriate information flow for the elaboration of architectural projects at INFRA, the non-adherence of the Infrastructure module of the Integrated Patrimony, Administration and Contracts System (SIPAC) to the information flow detected and suggested aspects of improvement for an integrative information flow. Thus, it was proposed a prototype, at a conceptual level, of an information system module to support the flow of information adequate to accompany the process of elaboration of architectural projects. It is expected that the prototype developed, if implemented in the future by the competent sector of the entity, will contribute to further increase the competence in information management of construction projects for new buildings.

  • Law no. 8,666/93 on Bids and Contracts establishes the rules for bids and contracts by the Public Administration. However, after the formalization of an administrative contract, there is not always an efficient contractual management, resulting in the non-execution of the contract and losses for the Administration. In this regard, the present study will deal with the importance of Information Management for improving the management of administrative contracts. The research aimed to analyze the management of contracts in a Federal Institution of Higher Education in order to improve their performance. To achieve the general objective of this research, the following specific objectives were outlined: To identify the legal requirements for the management and inspection of administrative contracts; describe how the management is carried out, as well as the existing paths for the execution of these contracts in the institution; elaborate an intervention proposal through a flowchart, aiming to propose improvements in the process of monitoring administrative contracts. Thus, an applied, descriptive research with a qualitative approach will be carried out, where documentary research, application of questionnaires and semi-structured interviews will be used as a technique of data collection.

  • Focusing on the technological dimension of Information Management (IM), this study emphasized the contribution of Information Architecture to structure a Digital Repository on Transgenic Animals, which aims to systematize information and experiences exchange between researchers to establish and to expand collaborations between research groups and to facilitate the transfer of valuable resources (i.e., transgenic animals) for research in Experimental Biology. Thus, this research aimed to establish guidelines to create a Digital Repository on Transgenic Animals, with emphasis on mice, based on Information Architecture methods and techniques, because there is no such Repository in Brazil. For this, a qualitative case study was carried out based on descriptive research. The choice for this type of research had as its main justification to diagnose information needs, based on the reality of the Brain Institute, to evaluate information technology to meet these needs and to project an appropriate information system. This research was developed in two stages. The first stage, a bibliographic type, aimed to collect data that supported the development of the theoretical framework and the second stage considered researchers perceptions about the creation of the Digital Repository on Transgenic Animals, through of interview and questionnaire application whose data were analyzed in light of the methodological aspects of Information Architecture. This research results were promising and will support the planning of actions for the implementation of the Repository because it allowed us to identify the guidelines concerning to organizational context, informational content and users.

  • The research aims to propose guidelines that promote the improvement of quality of BCZM's digital information services and meeting the users’ needs effectively and efficiently, considering the opinion of the librarians responsible for the sectors related to these services, and the students who make up the academic community, linked to UFRN Central Campus. The use of Information and Communication Technologies in the context of university libraries is paramount, since they provide ease and agility in accessing a large and diversified mass of information stored in this type of organization. In addition, they assist the library in the creation, control and management of information services focused on teaching, research and extension activities, that it is dedicated within a higher education institution. It is important, however, for libraries to periodically evaluate their information services with their users and managers, in order to understand the effectiveness and efficiency of the services offered, as well as to know the demand for new services that can pass to be offered. Therefore, we start from the understanding that the process of evaluating information services is an indispensable step for successful Information Management in University Libraries, in order to follow the changes naturally imposed by social, cultural, technological contexts, etc. For this, it is necessary to consider aspects such as the informational behavior of the users of these libraries and to identify their real needs and demands. The study was based on the premise that the lack of a policy and guidelines for periodic evaluation of digital information services offered by BCZM, on various platforms, may contribute to the fact that current information services are underutilized, or do not fully meet the needs of users. This work is based on the concepts and aspects of evaluation of university library services in order to, based on the contributions of the Informational Behavior and Information Asset Audit studies, using the Carvalho method (2010), favor the improvement and / or implementation BCZM / UFRN digital information services. It is a research of an applied nature, of a descriptive and exploratory character, with a research approach to case study and survey strategies. With a quanti-qualitative approach, the research used a semi-structured questionnaire and speeches through the Focus Group as instruments for data collection. Data analysis used the data triangulation technique. At the end, recommendations were proposed that were considered opportune.

  • From the observation of users of the Sectorial Library Prof. Dr. Marcelo Bezerra de Melo Tinoco in carrying out his research in the various databases (SIGAA Catalog, Institutional Repository, Digital Monograph Library, UFRN Electronic Journal Portal and CAPES Journal Portal), perceived that many are unaware of one or more bases, as well as have difficulty retrieving and finding information. Thus, the creation of an Integrated Search Portal for the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte through a Discovery and Delivery System would alleviate the problematic related to the recovery and findability of information available in the complex informational ecology of the Library System of the referred university, being that he offers users the integrated search of informational collections in a single interface. The research, therefore, aimed to establish guidelines for the implementation of an Integrated Search Portal to Library System of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte based on a Discovery and Delivery System (SDE). To achieve the objectives, action research was used, which provides for joint actions between researchers and participants. For data collection, interviews and a focus group were conducted with the managers of the IR, IT sectors and with the management of BCZM. For data analysis, content analysis was performed. As for the results identified that the UFRN not have financial conditions for the acquisition of a marketable SDE software, so as a result of this research has indicated the use of free software Vufind to create the Search Integrated Portal, as well as proposed a flowchart with guidelines for its implementation. It is expected that the results of this research contribute to the implementation of the Portal, helping the academic community to reduce the time needed to carry out their search for information.

  • In contemporary society, knowledge acquired by individuals and organizations and is seen as an essential component in social development, and learning process. It is also considered a path for personal, cultural and economic development of citizens. In this context, librarians, as information professionals, have a decisive role in organization of cultural facilities, acting as a information mediator between collections and the users. This professional may also eventually act, as an educator, in the role of internship supervisor, specifically on behalf of undergraduate students in the Librarianship Science course. In the view of educational innovation for professional training, active learning methodologies can be pointed out as possible alternatives to achieve the objectives of the supervised internship. Thus, this research aims to propose a model for conducting activities performed in supervised internships in Librarianship, which enables knowledge management aligned with the monitoring of learning and the development of professional skills in the performance of internship activities, based on project-based learning. As for the methodological procedures of the research, it is characterized in terms of its objective as exploratory, with a qualitative and quantitative approach, of an applied nature. The data collection procedures applied include bibliographic research, through systematic literature review, documentary research and interviews with Library Science students who interned at the library of the Tribunal Regional do Trabalho da 21ª region. Data analysis was performed using the content analysis method. Based on the results, it was possible to conclude that the supervised internship (mandatory or not) is essential for the most comprehensive training of the Librarianship student, involving the consolidation of practice and theory. From the reports and interviews, the knowledge construction process becomes evident, which is reinforced by the role of the supervisor as a mediator/educator. The dialogicity during the internship, in a mutual cooperative relationship between the parties involved, enhances teaching and learning. It was noticed a centrality in the interns' behavioral issues and less emphasis on the learning objectives and competences as a dimension of analysis, which brings a problem regarding the clarity of these issues. The 6F Model is presented based on the active learning methodology based on projects, aimed at the development of the internship from the proposition of 6 stages: project creation, professional competences; information sources; action plan; application and evaluation; completion and registration. The artifacts to support this process are also presented: learning project; list of skills; portfolio and expanded reporting. It is hoped that this model can be implemented in the context of the TRT-RN Library, and also adapted and used in other supervised stages of the Librarianship course, being a positive tool supported by active methodology and knowledge management and potentially useful for training provided by the supervised internship, within the librarian training cycle.

  • The extension activities of a University constitute a fair amount of its institutional face to the community. However, the people responsible for the actions, projects, courses and extension groups pay little attention to the treatment of information in their practices. Thus, the dissemination of information through digital social networks does not meet ideal parameters of efficiency and effectiveness. This dissertation aims to investigate how content curation tools can contribute to the dissemination of information on digital social networks by extension groups from the School of Music of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (EMUFRN). The monographic procedure research used a qualitative approach, with an exploratory purpose, to investigate six extension music groups from that school. The specific objectives were: to investigate the informational objectives, the human and technical resources of these extension actions; to analyze the performance of its digital social media managers from the content curation point of view; to identify and analyze techniques and elements of content curation used at the social media profiles; and, finally, to offer an information policy that helps the dissemination of information in the context of the digital social networks of EMUFRN's extension actions. The results showed that: digital social networks do not receive its due importance at the institutional project stage; there is still little dimension of the potential of networks to expand and build audiences; there is an excess of self-referential content and little value added in the analyzed profiles.

  • Currently in the custody of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), which is responsible for its preservation and dissemination, the journalistic collection of the Diário de Natal / O Poti represents an extremely rich collection for the production of knowledge on various areas of knowledge , such as economics, politics, arts, public administration and history. Given this context, the general objective of this research was: to analyze the elements of archival description present in national and international standards to simulate their applicability on the collection of Diário de Natal / O Poti in a computer system. The specific objectives were: a) to identify, through documentary research, the national and international standards of archival description currently in force; b) define the archival functions, the elements of description and metadata to be applied in the organization and technical processing of the collection; c) to elaborate the Collection Arrangement Chart based on the documentary types and collections identified; d) perform a diagnosis of the computational system to be used to simulate the practical application of standardization; e) validate the computer system database in order to exemplify the practical application of standardization and its advantages in the dissemination of information and data exchange. Bearing in mind that these interventions fall within the scope of Information Science, authors were researched that deal with Document Management, Archivology and file organization, providing a reflection on how these disciplines relate to informational treatment. The chosen methodology was action research, where knowledge is produced based on the realization of a research directed to a specific theme and, simultaneously, an action is produced aiming at the modification of a given reality. The data collection procedures used were unstructured interviews, participant observation and documentary research, and content analysis was applied to address the inferences and generate the results. The institutional validation of the research with the specialists, those responsible for the collection, was carried out through a focus group. The general objective was achieved with the development of a computational prototype to simulate the normalization in force and, as a result, proposals were presented that allow the treatment of this documentary mass according to recommendations of the International Council of Archives (CIA). It is hoped that this research will contribute to an efficient classification, description and dissemination of the newspaper Diário de Natal/O Poti, thus creating an environment that allows the creation of knowledge.

  • The inspection process of academic projects developed at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) aims to ensure, through the provision of technical accounts, the production, collection, treatment and presentation of information regarding the achievement of the agreed object. For 2020, the budget for the development of the portfolio, which includes 71 projects, exceeds R $ 468 million. This amount justifies the implementation of actions aimed at monitoring and control, as well as showing the importance of managing information relevant to the process. The execution of this process in a regular, methodical and systemic manner, contributes to transparency, efficiency, effectiveness and, above all, effectiveness of public spending. Based on this situation, the present study asked: How can Information Management contribute to the evolution of the inspection process of academic projects developed at UFRN? Therefore, in order to answer this question, in general, we sought to: analyze the contributions that Information Management can provide to the process of monitoring academic projects developed at UFRN. And specifically: a) to know how coordinators and inspectors carry out the stages of the information management process in the scope of inspections; b) map the informational flows of inspections, in order to identify the events that influence the course of information and the quality of the supporting documents presented; and c) improve the current ones and create new informational products and services, capable of contributing to the evolution of the inspection process of academic projects developed at UFRN. To achieve these objectives, a qualitative, descriptive and applied research was developed, based on the phases of the information management process, based on a case study. As a data collection instrument, semi-structured interviews were applied to the research subjects, and documentary research was carried out. For data analysis, qualitative analysis in five phases was used according to Yin (2016), in addition to data triangulation. The results pointed out the absence of institutional standards directed to the accomplishment of the tasks pertaining to the stages of the information management process applied to inspections, causing barriers to the information flow and impairing the quality of the supporting documents made available to PROPLAN inspectors. Thus, an intervention proposal was prepared that provides a particular view of the changes suggested for each of these stages. The proposal includes the creation or modification of information products and services that will support the operational procedures of the new process.

  • The management of information in public organizations must be directed towards the achievement of organizational objectives, meeting the interests of society and meeting legal requirements. In this sense, for the management of the personal information of public servants, practiced fundamentally within the scope of the organization's people management, the rights of access to information and the inviolability of intimacy must be ensured, observing its general characteristics as public information and its restrictions. Thus, the general objective of this research is to audit, based on risks, the management of personal information carried out at the Personnel Administration Directorate (DAP) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). This objective is operationalized through the following specific objectives: a) to analyze UFRN legislation and legal regulations relevant to the management of personal information; b) to identify the risks associated with the management of personal information in the electronic administrative processes of retirement and pension for death; and c) to propose recommendations that contribute to the improvement of the management of personal information in DAP / UFRN based on risks. To achieve these objectives, an association was made between the intelligence audit method proposed by Carvalho (2010) and the internal governmental audit based on risks. Thus, the proposed study was developed as a research of an applied nature, with a descriptive purpose and qualitative approach, with research-action research as the research strategy, which provides for joint actions between researcher and participants, based on data collection through documentary research, participant observation, interview and focus group. The data were analyzed through content analysis. The adopted methodological path made it possible to reach the research objective. The systematic examination of the management of the personal information of employees and pensioners, with the objective of evaluating the different laws, the organizational climate, in addition to verifying the good practices adopted and identifying the findings and risks associated with the processes, supported the elaboration of the Recommendations that can contribute to improving the management of personal information at DAP / UFRN.

  • One of the main functions of the implementation of information systems (IS) in an organization is to provide the information needed to achieve corporate objectives, allowing the optimization of resources and organizational development. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out evaluations to verify the success of the IS and one of the most used ways is the measurement of the users' satisfaction. On the other hand, depending on the degree of satisfaction with the use of an information system, users may be resistant to using it, or else they may adopt undesirable usage alternatives. This behavior is considered “workaround”, which is still little studied in the scope of IS management. Based on this context, the work aims to identify the factors that influence the satisfaction of an information system and to verify if there is “workaround” behavior in the case of dissatisfaction. The information system here specifically is part of the SIGRH of the Federal Rural University of the Semi-Arid (UFERSA), focusing in particular on the performance evaluation functionality of its technical-administrative servers. To measure user satisfaction with the performance self-assessment form subsystem, DeLone and McLean's (2003) model of successful information systems evaluation was partially used and, as a consequence of user satisfaction, the variable was originally included “workaround” behavior based on Laumer, Maier and Weitzel (2017). The research is descriptive in nature with a predominantly quantitative approach. Data collection took place through an online questionnaire, the link of which was sent to the technical-administrative servers of that university and obtained in response to a sample of 167 users. As methods of quantitative analysis of the data obtained from the closed questions, statistical techniques of descriptive analysis, factor analysis, multiple linear regression analysis and analysis of clusters or hierarchical "cluster" were used and, for the open question, a cloud of data was generated. words. As a result, it was possible to identify five factors that most influence the satisfaction of users of the performance evaluation system, with the quality of information being the factor that had the greatest degree of influence on the user's positive satisfaction. It was found a good satisfaction of the user in the use of the self-assessment form and, with that, it was noticed that the “workaround” behavior proved to be shy. The open question made it possible to identify recommendations or opportunities for improvements to the self-assessment form subsystem, such as adding more specific assessment questions in relation to the job and the job sector; include a device that allows a more complete and targeted feedback from the evaluations carried out, and finally, insert a reminder and shortcut in a strategic location of the system during the period defined by the management for the performance evaluation.

  • It is a research that investigates the basic procedures for the Building Information Modeling (BIM) implementation with an integrated approach to Information Management practices, applied to the Brazilian federal universities’ context. The BIM implementation in organizations is a challenging activity since it requires a series of changes involving work processes, among which are the production, sharing, and use of information. In this sense, there is a set of knowledge in Information Management field that deals with managing activities related to information in organizations. Thus, it is noticed that this relationship between BIM and Information Management presents itself as a facilitator to create a favorable environment for the BIM implementation. Considering the current Brazilian scenario in which federal entities have the obligation to implement BIM by the year 2028, it is figured out an opportunity to investigate and systematize the basic activities for BIM implementation integrated with Information Management as a solution for these organizations. As a way of delimiting the research variables, this study was applied to Brazilian federal universities. Therefore, this research has the guiding question: how to implement BIM integrated with Information Management for the building development process of Brazilian federal universities? To answer this question, the general objective is to propose a method of implementing BIM integrated with Information Management for the building development process of Brazilian federal universities. To achieve this objective was carried out a research classified as qualitative, and as exploratory in terms of the objectives. The methodological procedures followed the precepts of Design Science Research. In this way, it was searched reference literature and through a systematic literature review, which identified the aspects of integration between BIM and Information Management field, defining the problem and the basic characteristics to propose a solution. After that, the construction of the artifact began, contemplating: the relationship of the theory with the legal context of the building development process; partial application of the artifact at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, which had data collection through documentary research, interview and questionnaire study; and, finally, its evaluation, which took place through an interview with six researchers, being three of whom BIM specialist and three Information Management specialist. The general objective was achieved after an iterative process that involved literature review, documentary research, partial use, and evaluation of the artifact. Thus, it is proposed a method that systematizes a sequence of procedures for implementing BIM integrated with Information Management in Brazilian federal universities. It was determined that the integration between BIM and Information Management presents as a facilitating factor to plan and implement BIM, as well as to define basic aspects for a favorable environment to its operationalization.

  • In the perspective of promoting a better management and giving greater visibility to the technical-scientific production of its members, UFERSA has implanted in 2019 is digital repository. It is known that settlement of this informational environment takes place with the possibility of self-archiving, in which the own author deposits their production, or by means of mediated deposit, strategy used because of the insufficiency of self-deposit modality. However, in reason of some obstacles such as the slowness in the mediated deposit and the low contribution of authors/researchers in the self-archiving process, as literature quotes, the research had as main objective to propose a new form of semiautomatic settlement of technical-scientific production in the UFERSA digital repository, considering especially the propose of automatic collection of bibliographical registers in external sources, by means of importation and consequently the reuse of metadata. This is a social applied research, of exploratory character, with a qualitative approach. Due to its diagnostic character, the action-research was chosen to act in the search of solutions to the identified problems, using individualized interviews and focus groups to the data collection. The data analysis, in turn, was accomplished from the content analysis to treat the results and make inferences. Regarding to the results, it was possible to identify factors that, currently, have influenced negatively the deposit in the referred repository, highlighting the slowness of the approval of its information policy, which leads to the other problems identified. Thus, it was suggested a model with steps of the process of collection and importation of registers in the IR, as an intervention proposal, adopting a strategy that brings greater celerity and fewer human effort in reason of the already existing modalities. It is expected that facing the potentialities presented by the automatic collection of scientific papers, by the reuse of metadata in external sources, the institution includes this modality in its information policy prioritizing its application.

  • In the school environment, competence in information is related to learning throughout life, while informational behavior can be seen as the ability to know how to seek the information necessary for the development of the individual. In view of this proposition, the general objective of this research is to diagnose the competence and the informational behavior of the students, of the technical courses of the Agricultural School of Jundiaí - EAJ. To achieve this, a theoretical contribution was developed from researchers and theorists about information competence and informational behavior, presenting an overview; the necessary skills for the use of information sources were described, as well as the obstacles observed by individuals in the activities of access to information and construction of knowledge; the Kuhlthau Information Search Process - ISP model was used, which is characterized by analyzing users' behavior in the emotional, cognitive and physical fields, from six stages: initiation, selection, exploration, formulation, collection and presentation. As for the methodology, it is an exploratory and descriptive research, with a qualitative and quantitative approach, of an applied nature through a case study with the application of a questionnaire to teachers, which served as a subsidy for the construction of the questionnaire applied to students, subjects of this research, constituted of students of the technical courses of EAJ. Regarding the information collected, we used the technique of descriptive statistics with the use of percentages. As a result, it was observed that those surveyed in a partial way had characteristics inherent to information competence, and this was detected from issues related to skills in the use of sources, access, evaluation and use of information, which were proven through the characteristics observed in the Development of Information Skills - DHI which are part of the standard developed by the International Federation Library Association - IFLA. In view of the result obtained, an intervention proposal was developed with a view to developing actions that contribute to the development of skills in accessing, evaluating and using information in a critical and effective way.

  • Information and knowledge resources are considered strategic for the success of new organizational models, both in the context of private and public companies. Not in a different context, state university hospitals are important public bodies that provide services to society and demand the constant use of information to generate knowledge. It is also known that when working together exchanging knowledge and information, they can all benefit in the process. It is necessary, therefore, create practice that may help in the collection, creation, storage, treatment and distribution of information and knowledge among the ones involved in this network. Based on this new role, hospital management is focused on improving the quality of services provided to the population, using Knowledge Management (KM). In this scenario, the present research mins objective is to analyze the network of 39 state university hospitals under the management of the Brazilian Company of Hospital Services (EBSERH) from the perspective of KM. The research approach is quantitative, its nature descriptive, using the strategy of bibliographical and documentary research, especially gathering data in a participative manner. Data were collected from the questionnaire based in the Terra model (2000), and the study environment was composed by managers who are connected to the CEO of these hospitals and their processes. It was used the descriptive statistics technique to analyse the data. As a result, it can be verified that the network constituted of these hospitals does not yet have a formal plan with structuring actions focused on KM. Nonetheless, there were important aspects that favor KM notably, with the achievement of the best averages in the dimensions regarding learning with the environment and strategic factors and the role of CEO. The results measurement, the culture and the organizational values, as well as the organizational structure and the human resource management present a reasonable existence of managerial practices of KM. The result also points out to the opportunities for improvement in information systems, which was the dimension that obtained the lowest result. In general, the result contributed to the construction of the proposal of the situational action plan and it is expected that the study will compete for a commitment of the managers in charge, related to the implementation of KM practices that will contribute to a growth network results.

  • We live in a world where information and knowledge have become valuable assets for organizations. Thus, this study has a general objective to understand how the Pro-Rectory of Outreach (PROEX) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) establishes communication with its internal and external public through its Facebook page. Aiming to attend this purpose, we have, as specific objectives: to verify, through cybermetrics, and the indicators of visibility, time and cybermetric impact factor, how the PROEX page is being perceived; identify the existing communication flows in PROEX and propose an action plan for PROEX communication on Facebook. For that, this research has an applied nature, a qualitative and ethnographic approach, with emphasis in the Webnography, and a descriptive purpose. Then, the data obteined through the questionnaires and the
analysis of the postings were commented through the technique of content analysis, as well as the comparison between the forms, trying to identify points in common between the answers; as well as through a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, displaying the metrics analyzed through tables and graphs. Based on the results found, the action plan proposed for PROEX states that the Facebook page has a low level of engagement by its users and that there is a lack of knowledge of the academic community about the existence of this page. As a result, it is suggested as a communication strategy to carry out a publicity campaign on these profiles and the consideration of the use of a more informal language that is closer to the public, with alternating formats of posts (text, image and video) and with the emphasis on the activities the sector provides. Finally, we also advise several complementary actions that will contribute to the work of managing the organizational communication of the
sector is always in constant evaluation and improvement.

  • The democratization of citizen-oriented public management, including transparency and social control mechanisms, is a reflection of the importance which has gradually been attributed to information not only as an input of administrative activities, but also by its public character, both in public administration and in private organizations which, by legal determination, have the duty to provide certain information, since they provide public services or have public funding in order to practice their activities. The research took as a parameter the purpose of access advocated by the Brazilian Access to Information Law, considering its regulation by the state of Rio Grande do Norte, specifically, within the scope of the state legislative authority, as a way to contributing to administrative rationalization, agility and transparency in the access to information and preservation of the state's documentary heritage. From this perspective, this study focused on the documents management at the People Management Coordination of the State Parliament of Rio Grande do Norte, according to the objective of the law in order to verify if the way in which the documents are handled in the sector is able to ensure the access to public information. To answer the research problem, a qualitative study was developed. The research strategy used was a Case Study, the requests for information sent to COGEP during the year of 2018 were analyzed. It was found the percentage of attendance to the demands, as well as the reasons alleged by the coordination when not attending them. Based on this, it was possible to understand the reasons for any identified failures and to suggest recommendations for improvement.

  • The University libraries are institutions knowledge providers and organizers that need knowledge for their daily activities and also to add value to their processes, products, and services. Thus these organizations need to provide appropriate environments for better management of their intangible resources. Knowledge Management (KM) is a strategy that helps in this process, as it works with the access, generation, incorporation, and transfer of knowledge in the organizational scope. Some tools and practices facilitate KM's work within knowledge organizations. Given this research aimed to propose a portfolio of KM tools and practices for the Central Library Zila Mamede (BCZM). The research approach was qualitative and quantitative, descriptive. The instruments chosen to achieve the objective included an interview directed to the director and coordinators of BCZM, as well the application of a questionnaire directed to the effective library servers. For the interview, data analysis was performed using Bardin Content Analysis (2011). Overall, it was possible to analyze that managers do not yet have a full understanding of KM, as most of them could not mention KM tools and practices. Managers also identified the main difficulties encountered in the library in acquiring, creating, storing, sharing and using knowledge. Regarding the analysis of the questionnaire data, it was performed using simple descriptive statistical analysis. From this instrument, it was identified, mainly, that the Dimension Individuals KM tools and practices have higher Frequency of use by the servers than the Dimension Processes of the organization and the Dimension Technology. While in the Degree of importance, the Process dimension of the organization was the dimension better evaluated by the servers than the other two dimensions mentioned. All results led to the construction of a Portfolio proposing various KM tools and practices in their respective dimensions (Individuals, Organizational Processes and Technology) and divided into three levels of BCZM implementation/strengthening and institutionalization suggestion, namely: KM tools and practices already satisfactorily used and suggested for institutionalization; KM tools and practices occasionally used and suggested for strengthening and institutionalization; and tools Tools few used or not used, but suggested for implementation/strengthening and institutionalization.

  • The publication of the Access to Information Law (LAI), in the year of 2011, meant the establishment of the right to access public information in Brazil, already guaranteed by the Brazilian Constitution of 1988. The aforementioned rule presents as basic principle the active transparency which is configured by spontaneous disclosure of information by the Public Administration. In many institutions the expansion of this practice is already noted; on the other hand, institutions need to understand that a proper information management is not accomplished only by using modern information systems; also, change information culture of organizations is fundamental, aiming a full adaptation to a new scenario. Thus, this work approach themes related to organizational culture, information culture and behavior, and also its contributions, along with information management, to develop an information culture in the process to meet the demands of access to information that naturalizes the active transparency at the Pro-rectory of Graduation (PROGRAD) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). Therefore, this research presents as general objective to analyze if exists an information culture established in the process to meet the demands of access to information received by PROGRAD that contributes to a naturalization of the active transparency practice. In order to achieve the general objective, the following specific objectives are proposed: a) To describe the information flow of the process of meeting the demands of access to information; b) To categorize information with greater demand of access and establish categories of information that encourage the practice of active transparency, according with LAI; c) To verify the presence of indicators of an information culture in the process of meeting the demands of access to information; and d) To suggest tools/instruments that promote active transparency as well as contribute to develop an information culture. The research present a qualitative approach, applied and descriptive, also configured as a case study. Regarding the data gathering, a document analysis and semi-structured interviews were performed. For data analysis, the Bardin`s (2011) method of content analysis was used. The results generated the perception that PROGRAD practices the active transparency in an incipient form; just as exists an embrionary information culture in the process to meet the demands of access to information. Furthermore, an intervention proposal was elaborated, in which was suggested to develop a common questions section in the website of PROGRAD so that can stimulate the active transparency and greater access to information by the public of the agency. Also, an action set that could develop the information culture was proposed in the aforementioned process of meeting the demands.

  • Information when strategically applied can add value and turn into intelligence to aid decision-making, problem solving, innovation development, and advantage. In a scenario where everyone can create, access and share information and knowledge, while the time available to select, evaluate and use them in a relevant and productive manner becomes increasingly scarce, effective management of these resources is a challenge. of major importance. In this sense, drug information centers and services in a hospital setting are specialized units that aim to provide objective, relevant and updated information to meet the demand of the institution and professionals in health care. The general objective of the study is to audit the Drug Information Service inserted at Onofre Lopes University Hospital regarding its contribution to the practice of health care in the hospital community. To this end, the intelligence audit method proposed by Carvalho (2010) was applied, as it allows a holistic approach to all the elements necessary for the planning and evaluation of information units. This is a descriptive study with a qualitative and quantitative approach. The scope of the audit was defined from the perspective of the organization, while the aspects to be audited were related to the following components: actors; processes; information resources; and technologies. Regarding the authors, the informational behavior of health professionals (doctors, nurses and pharmacists) and their perception about the audited unit was verified, using the questionnaire as a tool for data collection. To analyze the information flow provided to users, a documentary analysis of the process was performed and compared to the information flow model proposed by the author Adriana Beal (2008). A situational analysis was performed using benchmarking to compare similar services in terms of structure and activities, which made it possible to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the unit. In general, the finding of the facts identified in the audit supported the elaboration of the guide for the implementation of the recommendations for improvements aimed at improving the service and its adequacy and adaptation to changes in the institution, its surroundings, and the users it is intended to serve.

  • The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) uses a set of computing systems applied to the necessary administrative tasks such as the Virtual Desk. This system was added recently and aims to manage electronic processes and documents. This work investigated Information behavior on behalf of UFRN staff regarding the use of the Virtual Desk system. Information behavior is one of the nuclear subjects in the realm of Information Science. It deals with studies related to the ways people interact with information when they have information needs. Thus, this work aims to analyze the UFRN's technical-administrative staff informational behavior regarding the introduction of the new tool based on Wilson's model (1981). This is also done aiming to elaborate an intervention proposal. To achieve the general objective, specific objectives were outlined, such as a) understanding staff´s informational needs regarding the use of the Virtual Desk system; b) Identify he most used information channels and sources of this public c) Characterize the process of searching and using information, identifying search practices and possible barriers perceived by users. An applied research with descriptive and qualitative approach was carried out. Interviews were done with 14 administrative technical staff. Data collection was analyzed considering content analysis proposed by Bardin (1979). Results showed that the staff´s informational needs are not restricted to technological adaptation. Staff draw information considering an array of information sources, including people. It was also seen that users face both environmental (expressively more present), personal and social barriers. Thus, an intervention proposal was elaborated that suggests the inclusion of a Frequently Asked Questions section; the development of a Letter of services, and the provision of a mobile team to perform training in server units.

  • Nowadays, Information Technology is considered as a strategic and value creation tool in the organizational scope. It also aims to increase competitiveness, transparency, efficiency and effectiveness between public or private organizations. Knowing this, these organizations need to understand how to plan and manage Information Technology efficiently, aiming to measure and add business-related value, considering the decision-making process related to Information Technology. To this end, IT Governance should be used as a management tool to provide direction and support for the process to achieve the organization's strategic objectives. The objective of this study was to evaluate IT Governance, using its own method, which was possible to verify the perception of the processes capacity and to identify the related problems. The application of the method was performed at the Federal Rural University of Semi-arid (UFERSA) and the processes selected for evaluation were those of strategic level indicated in COBIT 5, which are part of the EDM domain. The data collection was made from questionnaires that included all the IT servers of the institution. After collecting the data, they were submitted to the focus group composed only by the directors and the Information Technology sector superintendent for validation and creation of an action plan. Of the items analyzed, opportunities for improvement were found in the domains that deal with ensuring the definition and maintenance of the governance model, and ensuring the optimization of risk and IT-related resources. Key points for improvement are contained in the action plan and include the creation of a reward system, risk management management, meeting IT resource needs and delegating people to perform resource management. from you. The result confirms that the method used for data collection proved to be efficient in view of the recognition shown by managers. The processes that should be addressed to mitigate relevant threats were also pointed out.

  • The UFRN is a complex organization with multiple administrative activities, therefore, diverse information and processes compose it. To support these processes, computer information systems were created. One of these is the Central Internship Module, which was incorporated in 2016 to manage compulsory and non-compulsory curricular internship follow-up processes. This work investigated the effectiveness of the use of the Central Internship Module in the management of the UFRN internship monitoring process and had as its unit of analysis the Coordination of the Graduation in Production Engineering. The proposed general objective was to restructure the procedures and suggest adaptations in the Central Internship Module based on the Beal (2012) model. To achieve the general objective, the following specific objectives were set: a) Describe the existing informational flow of the internship process at CGEP; b) Verify the needs of tactical (managerial) information; c) Identify the gaps between the internship process at CGEP and the Internship Module. In view of this, an applied research, descriptive and qualitative approach was performed, in which were applied: document analysis, semi-structured interview, focus group and process mapping. The collected material was interpreted from the content analysis proposed by Bardin (1979). The results indicated that: (a) there is incompatibility between the CGEP internship process and the Module; (b) it is necessary to describe and publicize the informational and procedural flows that involve the stages; (c) it is necessary to insert functionalities in the Module, which need to be better disseminated. Thus, intervention proposals were prepared that suggest the organization and dissemination of the processes and information related to the internship in a flowchart; modifications to the general control spreadsheet of CGEP; and changes to the Central Stage Module.

  • The Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte has been producing and accumulating over the years a large volume of information that reflects its organizational structure. This makes a large number of records. The aim of this research was to develop an archival diagnosis of the General Archive of UFRN. In order to achieve this it was developed a theoretical reflection about Archivology concepts and principles, also about university archives as specialized archives; an overview of record management considering international context and Brazilian scenario was presented and some considerations about file diagnosis and their relevance to record management were set. This work consists of a descriptive and applied research with qualitative and quantitative approach, conducted through a case study. Participant observation and semi-structured interview were carried out. It was observed that the practices and procedures related to record management in the General Archives are not in full compliance with the archival precepts. Other elements also differed with what is considered ideal for a central file unit. Moreover problems were identified in physical structure, records organization and in limitation of technical staff. In order to remedy some of those problems and to promote improvements in procedures and techniques, an intervention proposal was made in the form of recommendations.

  • Society throughout its history has sought to fill its informational gaps in order to understand living environments, solve their problems, and create products and services. However, aware of the lack of this aspect, it began to increasingly demand information from different sources and existing informational environments. At the same time, this society began to demand an increasingly efficient, effective and effective Public Administration. The greater visibility and ease of access to information and knowledge have become important allies of the state in the process of improving its services and, consequently, meeting the requirements of society. However, it often happens that these resources are not available to society and the Government. Given this scenario, it is essential to develop studies that promote the approximation between people, organizations, information and explicit knowledge in the legislative branch, specifically in the Assembleia Legislativa do Rio Grande do Norte. In this sense, this research aims to investigate and propose possible solutions that provide greater visibility and access to information and knowledge developed and included in the academic productions of the Escola da Assembleia, specifically the completion of postgraduate course, seeking the dissemination of those who are unknown or known but inaccessible. To achieve the proposed purpose, the qualitative research used bibliographic research, documentary research and case study as research methods. Data collection instruments were documentary research, questionnaire and interview. Data analysis was performed using content analysis methodology and techniques such as categorical analysis and data triangulation. As a result of the research, it was understood that the development of a digital library for this a Assembleia Legislativa do Rio Grande do Norte, the development of a digital library for the legislative branch and the extension of the Projeto LexML are viable solutions for increasing visibility and access to information and to the intrinsic knowledge of this branch and, consequently, to its strengthening.

  • Abstract

This research aims to analyze the factors that have influenced the managers’ and secretaries’ satisfaction with the use of the report issued by SIPAC. For this, the specific objectives were reached: characterizing the profile of the budget statement use; describing the perception of the sample regarding factors that have influence
satisfaction; identifying the relationship between the variables of the model and the satisfaction and analyzing the perception of the users regarding the improvement aspects of the report. The initial theoretical contribution was the user satisfaction model by Doll and Torkzadeh (1988). Methodology used was a quantitative approach,
although one of the questions was analyzed in a qualitative way. The application of a questionnaire was included in a non-random sample of 79 managers and secretaries belonging to the academic departments located at the UFRN Central Campus. The technique used to analyze the quantitative data was main component analysis and
multiple regression and, for the qualitative analysis, the word cloud was used. Among the results obtained, it was verified that 30.8% of the sample has used the report at least once a month and 28.2% never used the report. Besides, it was confirmed that, for the most part, respondents are partially satisfied with the factors that influence satisfaction. It was evidenced that the variables that had the greatest influence on satisfaction were the ease of use and the format of the report, influencing 60.1% and 58.4%, respectively. Finally, in analysis of the word cloud two suggestions were more latent: the request for a training course and the difficulty of understanding the information contained in the report. Thus, it was suggested as a way of covering the critical points of the report raised in this research that a training course be promoted.

  • The research has the objective of evaluating the information flow of the accessible information production process of the Accessibility Laboratory (LA) of the Central Library Zila Mamede / UFRN, considering the opinion of the LA team, teachers and students with Specific Educational Needs attended by the sector. The production of accessible information in the LA is considered an organizational process and as such is formed by information flows that sustain and give life to all the activities of the process. Given this, the study started from the premise that barriers present in the informational flow of the process interfere directly in the production of accessible information, reverberating in the non-attendance to the informational needs of students with limitations and / or difficulties in reading reading, assisted by the LA. It is a research of an applied nature, of a descriptive and exploratory character that was characterized as a mixed study, with a research approach of case study and survey strategies. From a quantitative-qualitative approach, the research used as instruments for data collection a semi-structured questionnaire, participant observation and discursions through the Focal Group. Data analysis was performed using the data triangulation technique. The results pointed to the fact that the knowledge of the flow operation has reached a satisfactory degree, and detected the LA and CAENE as main agents of disclosure. The barriers with higher incidence in the detected flow were related to: intrapersonal factors, mostly linked to the motivation of the participant of the flow; interpersonal factors related to the characteristics of the information emitter, poor communication, poor use of technologies and motivation of the individual; and the response time in the requests of the demands in the flow, which did not reach a level of excellence. As for the informational behavior, the informational needs of the three actors of the flow were detected, and these were related in large part to the disclosure of dates and deadlines, the forwarding of informational material and the better disclosure. The results pointed to a service of information needs with a degree of excellence, where these, for the most part, have always been met. However, regarding the level of satisfaction of the functioning of the flow, a note 6.3 was reached on a scale of satisfaction level. Some recommendations were suggested to remedy the obstacles detected, such as a proposal to modify the teaching module in the SIGAA, a proposal for the creation of an institutional Electronic Tutorial for the production of accessible information, and a new design of the flow.

  • The university always had a leading role in society providing teaching, and citizens intellectual training. However, the passive role of promoting education has not been enough to guarantee the standardizing of global knowledge, being the university called to act in another plan: The Entrepreneurial University. This thematic is very clear in the Triple Helix, which is the interactive relationship between three economically collaborative independent agents: University, Government and Industry. This tripod forms a knowledge network, in which the university acts as an agent responsible for ensuring the knowledge transfer and promoting entrepreneurship through innovation methods. In this perspective, it is appropriate and opportune to develop mechanisms to facilitate the knowledge transfer. Design Thinking, in this research, will be used for this proposal, because it is an approach that aims to solve problems in a collective and collaborative manner, emphasizing the intercalation between divergent and convergent thinking. This iterative process search for innovation through pooling and exchange of knowledge between a knowledge network composed by members of multidisciplinary areas. Suggesting the adoption of Design Thinking as a method of knowledge transfer in the University-Industry interaction, specifically, is justified by the understanding that these are the actors with the greatest capacity to generate interchangeable products, processes and innovations, while the Government acts with greater emphasis in the promotion and financing of these relations. In this sense, the general objective of this study is to propose and validate the adequacy of a framework based on Design Thinking to promote the knowledge transfer in the Bioinformatics Multidisciplinary Environment (BioME) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). Specifically, this proposal intends to:  perform an intensive literature review by relating - emphatically - Design Thinking and Knowledge Transfer in the context of University-Industry interaction; to structure a framework based on Design Thinking for BioME; to analyze, with local experts, the framework adequacy to the process of creating a successful product/service of BioME and; to analyse the framework validated by local experts. This is an applied research, with a qualitative approach and an exploratory purpose. Methodological procedures were structured by the Design Research Methodology (DRM), presenting the strategies for each research objective. The intense literature review allowed the researcher to develop a Design Thinking process and format it within a framework combined with other elements associated to innovation methods. The framework adequacy analysis to BioME products/ services creating process, as well as the validation with the local experts, were carried out through individual interviews and a focus group, respectively. During the results discussion, the framework originally produced, showed modifications from both observations performed during the interviews and the focus group. The general objective was reached at the end of the research and, the framework final construct - proposed and validated - can be obtained at the Internet address http://bioinfo.imd.ufrn.br/big/.

  • The non-compulsory supervised internship is an activity that is part of the professional training of many graduate students and requires the accompaniment of the guider teacher the educational institution. The information from this accompaniment can be used for decisions within the course. From the observation of little information accessible in the coordination of the course of presential Pedagogy with the accompaniment of this activity, it was intended, in this research, to establish an informational flow of accompaniment of the non-compulsory supervised internship, inserted in the context of an Information Policy. For this, the specific objectives were defined: characterize non-compulsory internship guider teachers, describe how guider teachers perform the follow-up flow stages of the non-compulsory internshipand identify, with interviewed, elements of improvement for the flow of information in the context of an information policy. It is an applied research, with qualitative approach and classified as descriptive. The method of investigation adopted was the structuralist, starting from an existing phenomenon, which is the follow-up of the non-compulsory internship, with the pretension of constructing a model based on the subjects' own experiences and perspectives, and which can be concretely applied. The subjects of the study were guider teachers of the Pedagogy course, supervisors of granting institutions and students with non-compulsory internship experience, defined by non-probabilistic sampling, for convenience. As data collection technique a semi-structured interview was adopted. The data collected with the accomplishment of 31 interviews were analyzed based on Content Analysis, reaching eight final categories. The research confirmed the need for a new information flow model to meet all the information needs of the guider teachers. Thus, a proposal for the flow of information of the follow-up of the non-compulsory intership, based on the Beal (2004) model, was elaborated. This flow is suggested as part of a resolution, inserted, therefore, into an Information Policy instrument, for implementation in the coordination of the course.

  • The objective of this research was to describe and analyze how a federal university performs the informational management of the process of signing an agreement with its founding support. By understanding information management as a process, we used the methodology of information mapping associated with a detailed survey of information needs and legal requirements. It admits that the GI can be understood through four stages, the informational needs and requirements, the search / acquisition of the information, the way to distribute it as well as the understanding of the use. From an ecological perspective of information, information management, information flow, process management and the public management environment were adopted as the theoretical basis. To achieve the objectives, a qualitative approach was carried out, classified as a descriptive-exploratory research. Strategically made use of the methodology of intentional case study, since the research will be developed at the Federal Rural University of the Semi-arid. This is an applied research, since the expected results can be used to improve or implement solutions to specific problems of the institution. The results achieved in the research culminated in the development of information products in order to improve the existing process.

  • This work consists of a research on the management of museum collections. The objective was to implement fields in the ACERVUS System to catalog the Collection of Ethnology of the Museu Câmara Cascudo (MCC) of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). Other processes have also been suggested that allow an adequate management of this patrimony. For this, it was anchored mainly in museological norms and policies. The ACERVUS System was developed by the IT Superintendence of UFRN and allows the inclusion of fields according to the needs of each collection. In order for these interventions to be in line with the requirements of Information Management and museological principles, the following actions have been carried out: analysis of legislation, guidelines and standards related to these themes; documentary and flow survey of the MCC Collection of Ethnology and conducting interviews in the focus group format. The idea was to discuss the informational needs and, thus, to contribute more assertively to the improvement of the ACERVUS System. These procedures were guided by the action-research methodology. In this method, the researcher is concomitantly participating in the research and, in turn, seeks to solve or clarify proposed problems in the observed situation. As theoretical support, authors were researched dealing with information management, information systems and collections management. The main difficulty found in this work was the fact that all the objects of this study were in the phase of implantation, restructuring or transformation. As results, the fields in the ACERVUS System for cataloging the MCC Collection of Ethnology were effectively created. Proposals were also made to enable the management of collections according to the recommendations of the International Committee of Museums of the International Council of Museums. It is hoped that this research contributes to give greater accessibility to UFRN's collections.

  • The Library System (SISBI) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) has
adapted its activities and computerized its processes and services through information
systems. The collection management process, and in particular the process of purchasing
informational material, started to occured in 2008, automated, operationalized through the
Integrated System of Patrimony, Administration and Contracts (SIPAC). Being a management
information system, it must be developed with a view to meeting the needs of users, and
following the principles of usability. Thus, in order for the participation of the academic
community to be effective, what should be done in terms of improving the usability of the
system? In order to answer the research question, it was defined as a general objective to
evaluate the usability of SIPAC, with emphasis on the registration of requests for
informational material purchases, from the perspective of the teachers of the Center for
Applied Social Sciences (CCSA). And as specific objectives: to understand the informational
behavior of the teachers who use the system; identify possible usability barriers during the
registration process of the purchase of informational material; and, evaluate the user's
satisfaction with the interface and interaction with it. The theoretical framework was built
based on collections management, usability and information architecture, and users'
informational behavior. This was a qualitative and quantitative study, descriptive of the case.
The non-probabilistic sampling technique was used for convenience, applied to a sample of
12 teachers. The data collection was based on three instruments: a questionnaire, a usability
test, associated to the verbal protocol technique and a semi-structured interview. For the
analysis, the instruments were triangulated and basic statistics and content analysis were used
with the help of Iramuteq software. The results indicate that the CCSA teachers have good
knowledge and skills in the use of computers and the internet, they are aware that they can
participate in the process of purchasing information material from UFRN and have the
Integrated Management System for Academic Activities (SIGAA) as the system most used by
them. Teachers point to usability barriers that do not help the task, such as: the location of the
access link to the registration screen, the lack of information to register a new information
material and also the lack of organization of information, language and lack of information in
the ISBN number field. Because teachers are not always able to overcome the usability
barriers and the time required to complete the task, they are not satisfied with the activity. It is
considered that the lack of familiarity with the SIPAC and the perceived difficulties contribute
to teachers' dissatisfaction with the system and lead them to not participate in the purchasing process. It is hoped that the usability evaluation result will help in the development of a redesign proposal of the system, which will make it easier and more intuitive to carry out the registration of the request for information material.

  • The research deals with a study of information users from the theoretical bases present in the concept of informational behavior and informational practices. These two perspectives are based, respectively, on the cognitive and social paradigm of Information Science. It is characterized as a qualitative and descriptive research, applied through the technique of virtual ethnography, supported by the instruments of participant observation, semi-structured interviews and statistical data collection. The empirical field is the fanpage of TVU Notícias on Facebook, considering that information users are becoming more and more present in these non-physical environments. In this way, the objective was to analyze aspects related to informational behavior, as well as evidence elements of the actions of information users that match the socioconstructivist approach, emerging as the third paradigm of user studies in the field of Information Science. The results of the investigation were analyzed from the categorial content analysis, according to Bardin. Four final categories were listed, consistent with elements of behavior and information practices: recognition of the need for information, search, use of information, and user interaction. As a result, users use fanpage as a source of information, which is especially provided by the convergence characteristic of the social network on the internet. The relationship of subjects with information does not always occur due to an explicit need or an anomalous state of knowledge. There is not always a problem to be solved that demands the user's effective search for information to solve it. It is understood that the studied environment becomes interactive and the subject may come across casually with the information or seek it for simple pleasure or curiosity. In addition, the sociability element was evidenced as fundamental in this relation between user-information and the construction of knowledge. Finally, some recommendations for the applicability of the findings for improvements and adaptations in TVU Notícias fanpage were outlined.

  • Present in social and organizational environments, information has been growing in volume and importance in the last decades after its association with ICTs and its strategic valuation for organizations. In the midst of the current political and economicsituation that ravages the country and creates uncertainties in the operation of theIFES, this research, whose nature is qualitative, used the Federal University of RioGrande do Norte (UFRN) as the object of a case study, to analyze the effectiveness of its strategic planning process in the face of scenario uncertainties. Based on the assumption that there was organizational disintegration at UFRN the objective wasto find ways to manage information in the planning process, to promote its integrationand, consequently, to improve the use of its resources and reach institutional objectives. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, data collection, semi-
structured interviews, documentary analysis and bibliographie research were used as methods. The collected data were submitted to content analysis and revealed aspects of tne strategic planning process that confirmed the organizational disintegration. It was detected that the informational flow has gaps and the products generated in the process (plans) do not add value to the institution. It was presentedas suggestions to solve the problem from the point of view of informationmanagement : the effe ctive appropriation of planning activities by the responsible team; sensitization and managerial training of process participants and mapping of the strategic planning process under the vision of Inomata, Araújo and Varvakis (2015).

  • This research had as an objective to identify how the dialogue occurs between the undergraduate program in Management Engineering from UFRN and its alumni, for planning on continued educational activities. The research, characterized as a case study, of varied approach, adopted a quadripolar method, in which is recommended for scientific investigations in the area of Applied Social Sciences. Regarding the literature review, it was considered concepts as management and measuring of information and many aspects of continued education, moreover the authors that studied the importance of the relationship with alumni and the Higher Education Institutions. Aiming to make feasible a proposal for the development of a communication channel between the managers of the program in Management Engineering from UFRN and its alumni, for planning on continued educational activities, the research used two techniques for collecting information: an online survey that resulted a 27,78% response processed in a spreadsheet editor Microsoft Excel. As a result of the research, it was observed the potentiality of building a channel to measure the relation alumni-program, considering that 85,71% of the alumni appeared willing to keep a relationship with the program, and that 50% chose social media as the most convenient way for that to happen. Also, 84,29% of the alumni demanded continued educational actions after graduating, and from that 90,57% pointed out engineering as the most searched. In the interviews, the managers highlighted the importance of keeping a relationship with the alumni, providing sources on decisions regarding actions on the program. Despite this, there are few actions of effective communication with the alumni, and the existing ones are operated poorly. That being said, it is understood that this study can contribute so that the institution can develop more effective ways of contact with its alumni, not only regarding the continued education, but also in other institutional actions, since we believe in the relation with alumni and the institution for the improvement of the formation quality.

  • The usage of tools and practices of Knowledge Management brings positive impacts to competition in organizations and may contribute, decisively, to favourable financial results. Those tools may potentialize their perfomance and improve the results in activities related to Knowledge Management, presenting itself as a critical factor for an organization to excel in the environment it operates. This research's general goal was to analyze the portfolio of tools and practices of Knowledge Management used nowadays on the Management of the Hospital Universitário Onofre Lopes - HUOL. To do so, this research adopted as specific goals: identify and describe the tools and practices of Knowledge Management used nowadays and how the analysis of their acceptance was made in the daily management of HUOL. Finally, it's presented the proposal of a portfolio of tools and practices of Knowledge Management adapted to the organizational needs of the institution. This work may be justified because there are no researches over the same theme and place, most specifically after the changes that happened due to the adhesion to EBSERH. This research has a qualitative approach, mainly focused on description of goals through a strategy of case of study. The data collection method used interviews with the high administration (superintendency, staff, managers and heads of departments). The interview script was created based on the study made in the theoretical frame of reference, highlighting the tools and practices of Knowledge Management most present in the contemporary literature about this subject. The content analysis technic was used for the data analysis, according to the model of Bardin. It was noticed that Knowledge Management is not adopted under management perspective. Some tools and practices used by the research subject may be identified as practices of Knowledge Management, as: computer systems (MV, SIPAC, AGHU, SIGRH, SIG/EBSERH, etc), videoconference forums, management competence evaluation tools and business intelligence, assumed through benchmarking actions. As result, it's recommended the incorporation of some Knowledge Management's tools and practices, on the consolidation of a portfolio formally deliberated for Knowledge Management on the HUOL. The tools and practices adopted are: intitutional repository, presential forums combined with the practice of lessons learned, coaching and mentoring, and lastly Eletronic Document Management.

  • Interoperability enables communication between open access digital repositories and is necessary to facilitate and to accelareate the deposit of production in the repositories. In this context, from the observation of the scientific production stored duplication, besides the lack of communication in the Institutional Repository, as well as in the Integrated System of the Academic Activities Management, this work aims to promote interoperability between these two systems. In order to give visibility to the scientific production institution members. Both systems are from Rio Grande do Norte Federal University. For this reason, it was assumed that it is possible to make the systems interoperable. The methodology used corresponds to the action research, which provides joint actions between the researcher and the participants. The research sample consisted of participants directly involved with the systems, expecting a systematic data collection. From this perspective, these systems were analyzed through participant observation, such as interviews with the respective managers, and the focus group, with some participants from the research. The content analysis was used to categorize and treat the inferences and to generate the results. Thus, the research demonstrated that from the various types of documents stored in the Integrated System of Management of Academic Activities, currently, only dissertations and theses, have prerequisites that contribute to interoperability. So, based on this, it is suggested to do actions, in addition to a model that aims to promote this interoperability.

  • Information management (IM) has a prominent role in all types of organizations, including the higher education institutions. This highlighted role is derived from the perception of information as a strategical resource that resulted in significant changes in the informational behavior of the associates and in the structures of the organizations. Other factors contribute to the use of IM in universities, mainly when it is observed the growth and expansion of federal higher education institutions, especially due to the employment of the Plan of Restructuring and Expansion of Federal Universities (REUNI), that resulted in significant impacts on their demands, mostly in the management of the administrative activities and the overload of information. Such demands require that universities use tools that better manage searching, selecting, processing, storing, sharing and using information, highlighting practices of information management with more relevance. The problem’s context identified in the Undergraduate Program’s Office of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (PROGRAD/UFRN) was to optimize the information management in the process of registering the incoming students utilizing the available electronic tool? This study is justified for the importance that PROGRAD/UFRN has in the institution when it comes to the number of users of its services, volume of processes, activities and documents processing through. Thus, the objective is to propose the optimization in the information management of a strategical process of PROGRAD/UFRN. The specific objectives are: a) identifying models of IM applied to other HEI; b) characterizing the information management of PROGRAD/UFRN, with basis on the information ecological approach; c) mapping an existing strategical process in PROGRAD/UFRN with the purpose to optimize it. To fulfill such objectives a qualitative, descriptive and applied study was developed, having the research-action as a strategy. The study was divided in four phases: diagnosing the problem’s context, planning the study, intervention and evaluation. To acquire the data, it was conducted a literature review, documental analysis, structured surveys applied, semi-structured interviews, focal groups organized and performed the participant observation. The results obtained indicate that PROGRA/UFRN has been employing partially the principals of Information Ecology regarding the external environments, organizational and informational, thus the information management is not integrated yet. To optimize the information management in this institution it is necessary that the people are taken into account when it comes to productivity, the use and sharing of information. The intervention proposal was built in a collaborative, implemented and evaluated manner that subsidized a more consistent and broad proposition for its use. It is understood that the enhancement of the strategical process of registering incoming students in the institution, utilizing the available functionality in the academic system still faces some obstacles. Finally, it is recommended that other studies are continued for the research of tools that make it possible the information management in public organizations, such as UFRN, become a strategical resource to reach its complete mission and objectives.

  • This paper investigates information and information flows management at General Archive of Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). The baseline is the retirement processes, which precede Sistema Integrado de Patrimônio, Administração e Contratos (SIPAC), created in 2003. Theoretical foundation is about information and information flows management in organizations, besides information flow at General Archive, where retirement processes preceding SIPAC are handled. It also considers flow models and emphasizes the Access to Information Law - LAI - (Law 12 527/2011), since every public archive must meet its requirements relating to archival documental management, documental typology and custodial and post-custodial paradigm. We focus on the relevance of handling and preserving the paper supports of damaged retirement processes under the General Archive guard. In Methodology, we do a qualitative approach and action research strategy, using data collecting instruments such as documentary survey, participating observation and semi-structured interview. The research subjects are the General Archive first director, archive active public servants, some agents from Personnel Administration Department and an assistant for technical support. To analyze data, we use content analysis. For that purpose, a pilot project was elaborated; being composed by 20 retirement processes under General Archive custody, from 1965 to 2002, which are still not registered in SIPAC system. As a result, to the treatment and conservation of supports it suggests improve documents flow by cleaning, and registering in the SIPAC system. Related to the keeping documents, it suggests a better packing model to preserve physical processes.

  • With the change from an industrial economic model to an economy that is now based on knowledge and information, the work force has become more engaged with intensive activities regarding knowledge. In such a reality, academic graduate programs have turned into a strategic factor in the development of society in Brazil, considering their contribution to the production and spreading of knowledge. The process of quality assurance and direction of graduate programs in Brazil is done by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), whereas programs that do not have a formal strategic plan normally operate under actions that aim at meeting the requirements set by the evaluation system. The primary point of this research is to study the performances of 40 different academic graduate programs at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), through the implementation of the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA). It is an analytical method applied to examine and suggest new plans for better coordination, as proposed by Martilla and James (1977) e Server (2014), and was chosen for this particular task given its objectivity and simplicity in demonstrating results, and indicating strategic actions toward improving competitiveness. The study has a descriptive character, being developed through bibliographic review and documentary research. A total of 1,124 items from CAPES triennial evaluations of 2010 and 2013 were analyzed. These were gathered from 80 different files of graduate program evaluation, of which were measured the respective attributed level of importance and performance. The result of the research is the presentation of the general analysis of the programs, identifying the main factors in question and the opportunities for improvement, observed in the evaluation of the graduate programs at UFRN.

  • The management of information (GI) is a structured set of activities that mirrors the way in which an organization captures, distributes and uses information and knowledge. However, it is observed that despite efforts, still occurs in public institutions like the school of health at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, a lack of informational Dynamics to come meet the institutional needs in the preservation of important data for your daily life and your story, which refers to the requirement of creation, adaptation or deployment models and instruments that support the collection mechanisms for the reporting, assessment and institutional information. In this context, the present study aimed to contribute to the Office of planning and evaluation of Health, school construction, validation and application of an information-gathering instrument, as a tool to support the preparation of annual reports of the institution. The methodology used corresponds to action research, which provides joint actions between the researcher and participants. The research sample was made up of representatives of the sectors involved in the production of reports. The data collection occurred through meetings with the participants, institutional documents and analysis of management systems, with a view to identifying the information needed for the preparation of reports, as well as their sources, which resulted in the elaboration of a information-gathering instrument and the construction of a website for the Organization and provision of same. Thus, this study brought elements to enlarge the knowledge related to GI, adapting work processes and bringing them closer to the ideal models of information management. Finally, it is known that there is still a lot to go through to the establishment of an information policy for the School of health, however, the path has been trodden.

  • The research aims to provide subsidies for the construction of an information policy in an IFES. For both other goals have been delineated aiming to achieve the desired intention. We initially mapped and described the management of information and identified the main policies implemented in the institution. We then identified and described the information system, and from there we were able to verify the management of information regarding compliance with the law of access to information, through the diagnosis of the institution. As for the methodology, it is an exploratory and descriptive study of qualitative approach and with the strategy of the case study. We use several other procedures such as the revision of the literature on information policies, information regime, information management and public information policies with emphasis on the Information Access Law. We also conducted field research with the main managers of the area of the study, through the structured interview, non-participant direct observation, consultation and analysis of the documents and normative instruments, as well as research to the website of the institution. We also consulted the annals of ENANCIB and ENANPAD of the last three years, as well as specialized magazines in the subject. With this it was possible to conclude that the surveyed institution has a good regulatory framework for information management, has an own information regime, and is prepared to serve in part what determines the LAI. We also observe that there are difficulties which compromise the establishment of a policy, but which is necessary, which remains clear and evident in the study. There is notoriously the need for conception, elaboration and institutionalization of an information policy, involving the formulations of the general guidelines and policies of the institution, which we do not identify in the research.
